Shell Optimax

just for the record

Its called V power now boys 99ron the optimax was 97ron named changed because of lawsuit from optical company with same name.I deliver it and its popular stuff as is the new Vpower Diesel.Second tankfull is usualy when you notice the difference and the engine cleaning properties are pretty good to.. My anorak contribution for the week lol......

Bones

Could the results be scewed (sp?) because after 20k miles your engine is starting to loosen up a little more, and therefore is returning better MPG??

Just a thought

On a recent tour I was getting 60-64mpg on Euro 95....

Surely an engine runs best on what it's designed to run on?

I typically get 50mpg from my 1200GS using Shell unleaded 95 octane and I get typically 54mpg from Shell VPower (Optimax) - interesting.

Now 95 octane unleaded is around 120p/litre and VPower is around 132p/litre. So i get about 8% mileage increase for about 10% increase in cost. So a slight net loss, unless there are some other benefits to V Power e.g. faster/cleaner/longer engine life.

119p vs 126p where I live. 5% difference

Yup, its designed to run on petrol. BMW themselves suggest 97 ron if you ride at high speed, it avoids the RH piston holing.

What is it designed to run on? - 95 octane MINIMUM specified for my 05 1200GS; however it MIGHT run better (define better) on 97 or above.

I've never tried V-Power or the like but on supermarket fuel I seem to lose at least 20 miles per tank. If 97 or 99 octane fuel gives more miles per tank it's worth a try.
