Wanted a pinlock insert for my Arai today,so went to hill
Tried custom lids as I'd rather give my money to Kev if possible
But unfortunatley he doesn't do Arai but offered to order one if I got stuck
Went to M+S top shop where they sell Arais, stood for 5 mins whilst the useless young **** was on phone. Then his mates come in and he starts chatting about what a good night he had last night. He sees me but doesn't acknowledge me. So I go to his till he says" 2 minutes mate" which calms me down then proceedes to talk for 10 more minutes about last night, so I walked out
Fuckin boils my piss this sort of attitude no wonder the Internet is taking over.
Shows how desperate I was I even went to bottom shop but they don't do Arais just top shop.

Ive been going to hill for over 30 yrs and I remember when the hill was buzy on a Saturday and had sops like woodsys, batesys and Ben form. I thought that at least they would have learnt a bit of customer service especially in such hard economic times seems to be going backward not forward
For all the **** behind the till knew I could have been after a new bike or a helmet ( which I had to buy off net in December as no one stocked the one I wanted in my size and couldn't get it till end of January)

Normally see Graham or nev and always been fine:-) tend to go through the week myself.

The two kids chatting bout the weekend etc is a bug bear for me as well ! There prob on minimum wage ....

minimum wage is no excuse, you still should do your bit otherwise all the people at cafffs McD's st all would do f@ck all

The only shop in the area IME, who gave good service has gone, HG :-(

Going into any of the few remaining shops on the hill IME is a waste of time.
 
There's no excuse for shite service and I don't blame you for taking your business elsewhere, but if we as bikers don't support local shops then we won't have anywhere left to look at the things we'd like to buy.
The interweb is indeed taking over retailing in all sectors but surely we want a shop where we can talk to a real person and get what we want at the same time

As many of you know, I work in the bike industry and I really do worry for the future of retail stores:rob

Right now, I've had a bit to drink so I'd better shut up;)

Had a similar experience in a shop locally some while back.

Went in, stood in queue with two people in front of me. Staff behind the counter acknowledged me. Three people joined the queue behind me as service was slow.

Staff politely smiled over, about five minutes passed and the lady behind the counter went to serve the gentleman behind me and took an order from the girl behind him??

The same lady that saw me join the queue and nodded to say she would be with me in a moment.

I left the store but was a bit annoyed so went and turned around and walked back in and called the lady and the guy over to the till and asked them politely (ish) as to why they skipped me in the queue when I was clearly there longer?

Got a run of apologies and all that mullarky but I havent went back since.

A lot to be said for the auld argos type ticket system in stores.
 
in my experience /M&S have always been like that, its in their time not yours. the number of times ive had to wait for them to finish whatever inane conversation their on about to ask a question. they dont seem to be in the sales business at all. Shame as the store is pretty decent

And they can't answer a bloody phone either. The amount of times I've tried to get through their arse of a phone system and on to a relevant dept. is unbelievable. Never bought a bike from them and probably never will. Much better dealers about even if they are a bit of a trek.

I agree Mort I'd rather the personal service and support local shops
That's why I use the Hill, and off on a tangent a bit local butchers and fruit shops etc...... If you don't use them you can't complain when there gone
Good guys are Hunters, A-Z, off road only and Westgate super bikes
Part of the experience of buying something is having a look at it and a feel of it
Plus I like the crack with the salesman
That's why I refuse to use those new self serve tills at tesco etc

Obviously we've never met, lack of assertiveness is not one my weaknesses
In fact I'm on police bail at present due to my assertiveness
Just try not to be too confrontational over minor things, as once it starts my weakness is I don't know when to stop. All it would take would be a sarcastic or witty reply from the idiot behind the counter and it would all end in tears
 
I just tend to join in their coversation, they are usually a bit open mouthed when you start "didn't so & so look a mess in that dress and wasn't so & so a bit pissed" etc etc but it does get you their attention.
It also works well with women in supermarkets blocking the aisle with their trollys, but the wife tends to grab my collar and drag me away :blagblah
 
Great Granny died, left my 8 yr old £750 for a 'musical instrument'. The kid is seriously into his £26 keyboard, so the missus does some research into Digital Pianos. Makes all her decisions online, based on online reviews etc, 2nd Choice is Bonners .....Who have a monumental Superstore a few (tens more than hundreds) metres from my primary place of work. So I am sent to chose, and I chose to buy elsewhere.

Young people have their own way of being, I accept that, but when I show the dude my iPhone, showing his website is selling a piano for 20% less than he can offer me in store, and his response is that "I so not interested" expression.

If he had just said ' I am sorry, but I 'cant do anything about the price' ..maybe not, maybe I just expected a piano salesman to have grade 3....

But the consellation is that I know he had a great trip to Vietnam etc etc et al
