Should I Take This Offer?

I was told today by Oceon BMW that they have a special offer on their instock Adventurers. £500 toward your deposit. I said I wanted to see at the NEC show if BMW will be introducing anything new to the GSA range and I was told that there will be nothing new, not even a colour change? He also mentioned that recently he clocked up quite a few hundred miles on an Adventurer and his previous advise was to buy the GS because it was light and more manageable but today he told me he has changed his mind because is gives better weather protection and he has grown to like the GSA more than the GS now.

I am quite tempted at this offer, I would have all the BMW spec on it but not sure which colour? Dam it! Thankfully there are only 2 colours to chose from! Was also told they really want the deal sorted by end of month so I'm under no elusions that this is just to move stock at a quiet period.

Now I know some of you guys will say go for it but apart from finance is there any good reason to hang on?

Yes I was expecting but I was hoping I could find out at the NEC bike show if there were any changes - would seem they arn't. It would be bad luck if I bought this one then in March they changed something for the better! Is £500 towards your deposit a good offer from BMW, average or can it be higher? When would I get the better deal on a new 09 release or now during the winter period?

Get it!! I;ve just bought a Red one ,only change being Tiny LED indicators and read light which look cool.Got £500 off all the toys great bike good time to buy,they'll go up next year.

Take your time and don't let them rush you. November and December are both quiet months in the motor trade. I can't see them not giving you the same discount in December.

And next year when he has a showroom full of standard GS's/RTs whatever they will be the best bike to have. He's a salesman thats his job

It's probably one of these already built they're trying to sell. Salesman said he could transfer the colours from the silver model which I like = tank cover, mudguard and seat. Mmm but red it also nice isn't it?

How easy is it to remove box brackets for when I don't want luggage? Looks rubbish seeing the brackets there.

What's the sport exhaust tail pipe option like? Anyone bought one? Faster, sound better, expensive?

I am in a similar possition, ie having a long good think about upgrading to a gsa, and I am sure time is on our side, the dealers have at least two bad months trading in front of them, furthermore the current financial situation is adding to their woe's. I have spoken to two dealers and they are both happy to negotiate, one even suggesting he could put me on a brand new one for little more than the 10.5k he want for a 08 in stock.

Like you I dont like the new panniers and brackets and wonder if I cold fit my old vario's on a new GSA ?

By the way a well specked 08 GSA in red has popped up on Ebay in your area, have a look. Item number: 260310437189.

I got £600 off mine back in May this year and a free first service.

What did you buy? Did you buy extras with your bike? Did you trade in? This will all have an effect on any offer offered. I'm looking to buy a GSA with all the available add ons such as premium pack, alarm etc but not looking to buy boxes or any touratech items at this stage. But I like the idea of a free 1st service. The other idea I have is whether I should shop around for the best offer further afield? I may get a better offer in Bristol for example?

2008 GSA with premium pack and full luggage, I did trade in and got a decent offer on that as well (04 Honda VFR=£4100)
I got around 15% discount on a few other bits and bobs as well as the free first service which was worth £100

Thanks for the heads up. Pitty that the offer doesn't include sat nav & top box for the GSA as well? I told the salesman here in Plymouth that I would be interested if I had £600 deposit paid and free 1st service. He thought about it for a second and agreed. I'm now waiting to see if I am approved for finance, though I have not signed anything yet it is only an enquiry!

I enquired about the Akrapovic sport tail pipe for the GSA and I was shown one though I've not heard it. Any good? It was much lighter but costs £517.

I also enquired about the paniers and top box. Paniers were £728 and top box was £386 = expensive for something I don't want on the bike all the time but handy though ugly! The GSAs in stock do not have the factory fit alarm - do I really need it?

I think I would get it in red cause the silver is matt finish only!

I've got the vario's on my 08 GSA. So no brackets when you take em off (and no ali corrosion to worry about either) It just took a few different brackets to make them fit, and the overall cost was just about the same as the ali boxes

AKRO and REMUS headers is the best extra for your bike!! Just fitted them to my New GSA in Red Luverleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

£500 off an £11k bike? Less than 5%. Hardly knocking themselves out. With car sales down 23% on last year and the 6th consecutive month in decline I don't think even bike dealers can be too complacent. 10% off would be more like it.

Yes you're absolutely right, however I'm self employed running my own business and business although quieter is still coming to me - I fix computers for a living. Buying the bike would not effect our income at all and I've made some savings with my business to afford buying this bike. That said my wife thinks I should wait until next spring so it's put a little damper on things a bit. Not sure, but I have the bug now! I tend to rush in to things much quicker than my would would hence the difference of opinion!
