on my 1999 1150gs 60k miles, I have noticed that the throttles have a slight difference when they close, ie a double click. I have fiddled with the set up over the years..had a scrimager rebuild, had a short left cable, done the zero zero etc,. When I balance it at 3k it then is slightly out at 4 so it seems the throttles open at different rates. it idles and seems balanced ok. On the road it is smooth below 3600 but above that it gets lumpy...a dose of the thumps set in which is my main issue.....any thoughts on what I have missed would be gratefully received...jc

Buy a used set of unmessed with throttle bodies. And don't try to be clever and mess with them. Just set them up as per normal.

+1. Great advice. Especially since: a) the throttle stops and TPS are factory sealed for a reason, and b) zero=zero is wrong and is guaranteed to create a lean condition for small throttle angles.

The Sage Writes... :)

And it's funny that with these relatively simple bikes, doing the simple things well is often the best... :)

thanks for the replies...the bike was apparently a reclaimed write off so the T Bodies on it might not be the originals...is there a way to tell they if they are both as should be on a vintage GS1150?....a quick look on the ads shows it might not be easy to find others readily, does anyone set these up on a flow bench?
when I got the bike it went out of balance practically after every ride...although when I did the zero thing it stayed ok at lower revs, although a recent week cruising its homeland highlighted vibration at autobahn speeds.
......a month after I got it, it died due to the wiring loom melting away, a footrest had been clamped over the brake eak light wire, the wires going to the fuse had crossed and continued to melt away even though the fuse had blown....I wasn't to surprised when I found the front brake light wire was also clamped tight on the handlebars.....

In conclusion...the thought of having to get new, even second hand throttles made me read all the info I had on the TFI and the zero zero process. I realised I may have missed balancing the right side butterfly after doing the TPS and butterfly coordination. with that done I then found no display lights on the TFI unit with ignition on and running, so taking off the tank, I found a bust wire. Installing the TFI requires disconnecting the O2 sensor so I think that makes it run lean (?). After fixing that the tfi lights work as they should and with some final adjustment of the tfi to loose the roughness a ride showed a lot better, with nice pull from 70 to 90 in top.....
