…..if a route was planned in the connected app on one phone and the BMW ac was signed in then would the route be shown on a second phone signed into the same ac too?

=======

I have started you a fresh thread.

As a rough rule it’s best if you break-up separate questions into separate posts. That way people can more easily help you and your friend.

LOL, my friend doesn't give a 💩 it now me on a tech quest for something to do. Anyway I'm a pensioner and can't afford 2 phones:LOL:

do you have a tablet as well as a phone that can run the app, on which to conduct your experiment?

OK, it’s a fishing trip to find something out. That’s fine.

You only have one phone. Even though your friend doesn’t care, next time you see him, persuade him that you’d like to try connecting two phones (owned by two different people, riding two separate BMW motorbikes) to a single Connected account simultaneously. Why would you want or need to? What purpose would it serve? I don’t see that it can be some sort of cunning money saving wheeze, as the BMW app and individual accounts are free, though you do have to buy a BMW motorcycle, of course.

I think though it will be a bit of a faff, to possibly achieve very little. It would make much more sense to have both riders (each using their own Connected account and each riding their own BMW bikes) to simply run the same route.

I am not sure that a tablet can connect to the BMW Connected app. A while ago, I tried connecting my iPad. Whilst I can install the Connected app onto my iPad and access the limited basics of my account, I couldn’t turn on the app’s full abilities, as I couldn’t then connect my iPad to my BMW motorcycle. The two wouldn’t talk to each other.

I can though very easily connect my two separate phones, each running my BMW Connected app account, to my BMW motorcycle. But that is not what the OP wants to do. As I read it, he wants to connect two phones, each running the same Connected app account, to two different BMW motorbikes, simultaneously. Unfortunately, whilst I have two phones, I only have one BMW motorcycle, so I’m out.

I was thinking more of having an older phone mounted to the bike and showing the mapped route therefore allowing the better phone to remain safely in a pocket as the TFT nav only shows turn by turn and not a map.
I know some people don't want to risk a very expensive new phone.

I'm really fishing for not just my benefit but others may find this interesting as an alternative to an expensive Nav unit and possible fitting kit as we all seem to be gaining a collection of old phones.

Why would the "better" phone need to be logged into the connected app at the same time as the "sacrificial" phone?

It sounds like you only need to have one instance of the app running at a specific time.

I know, that is why I have gone to the trouble of creating you a separate thread, in the BMW Connected sub-section, where it will stand out. The alternative was to leave it buried in the (not relevant) thread.

That I and others are not sure why anyone might want to connect two different phones, on two different motorbikes, both sharing one account, all at the same time, is perhaps not surprising. If you can tell us why you might think it useful to do so, that would be interesting enough on its own.

PS The joys and tribulations of phone / app navigation (as opposed to a dedicated GPS unit) on a motorcycle are well known on these pages. I doubt if there is much more to learn on that topic.

I thought the whole idea of a motorbike was to ......escape ...... not make life more complicated .....

Only if you have music, phone, bike-to-bike, bike to mum, texts, weather, sunset, lean angles and the number of times you’ve used the toilet, all readily to hand.

Are we talking iPhones here? If so the old phone on the handlebars will happily run without a SIM card and hotspot to the ‘good’ one in your pocket if and when data is needed
