As I have always done when fuelling the last and this GSA I use the centre stand. Anyway go and push it off and onto the side stand and the side stand hits the toe of my foot and over the bike goes just missing the bowser. Since getting the bike I felt that the stand is to far forward. Love the bike just did 2000 klm run two up and bike didn't miss a beat. Love the power and the handling. Just be careful when taking it off the centre stand.

Not the first compliant here about side stands!!

the tang for the side stand is in a strange forward position (ie , between the gear lever and peg). Getting the side stand down is a conscious effort for the rider

but the OP's issue is with having the side stand down as he's bringing the bike off the center stand. Its really not an issue if you mind your feet , or just keep the side stand up. But some riders are apprehensive of the bike as its rocked off the center stand and hence the side stand being down ...

.

The same happened to me the other day with my R100GS-PD. I rarely use the centrestand but when I do, the sidestand must be out (It's a Surefoot). I rocked the bike off it's centrestand and the end of the sidestand dug into my foot. I was wearing Crocs. Not a good idea. Lesson learned.

Talking about the centrestand, this must be the very first bike I've ever owned that I cannot get onto the centrestand. Well I can if I put my left foot on the centrestand and heave backwards with both hands on the pannier rack. Jim Cray reckons I may have a shorter Hagon rear shock which might be the reason for this. With the panniers in place, there's no way I can do it.

I'm sorry but LOL I need to see the Video from the security camera

Mind you the side stand is forward compared to other bikes. I got on my other bike, a Kawasaki, the other day and couldn't find the centre stand! I thought it had fallen off! I did think about writing a letter to Kawasaki about the position of their side stand but then realised how silly that would sound.

.... So you rolled it of the centre stand on to the side stand onto your own foot, then fell over? I would of kept that quiet really.

And as for the fella that can't put his bike onto its centre stand. Maybe the bike is to big for you? IMHO never buy a bike you can't pick up of the deck...

i am really light but can put her on the center stand.

its more technique than brute strength

You are a bit of an edjut rolling the bike off the centre stand when the side stand is down.

Yes the side stand is further forward than the previous GS and a pain in the but to start with. But you get used to to it.

Guys thanks for the roasting but have owned a 09 GSA for five years previous to this and never had this issue, so I was just highlighting a trap that some of us could get caught out by if not careful. This is what I thought forums were for. Not one of you know me from a bar of soap or how long I have been riding for. Was I pissed for what happened yeah a little, was I able to laugh at my misfortune, Yes. Was the bike damaged part from a scratch on the crash bar, No. On the hole this is a great forum with a lot of good info passed on from one owner to another so lets keep it that way and not kick a bloke with the misfortune to have dropped the bike. Thanks for reading.

Don't agree. When I roll the bike off the centre stand, especially if it't loaded up, I always have it in first gear and with the side stand down. as soon as the rear wheel contacts the ground the bike stops dead and then I just lean it towards me and she settles on the side stand. However, I do keep my feet out from under the side stand.:blast

If there is a stone or some other object (or even a foot) in the way of the sidestand, when you roll off the centre stand with the side stand down, the bike is going over. Plus the sidestand bushes are not designed to take shock load.

Does get any simpler than that.

Ignore these simple facts at your peril.

Also rolling a heavily loaded bike off centre stand whilst in 1st gear can be a mixed blessing. If you are not careful the bike will get yanked out of your hands as the rear wheel locks when it hits the ground. Best to do it in neutral and do a controlled roll forwards; it never goes far.

Done it for years, taught it by a copper on Bike Safe!! and so far all ok.

Well you were being a bit cryptic...

Thing is is that most of us "find the way that suits us" and it doesn't really matter which way as long as you don't end up dropping the bike.

Best one was years ago, guy rolled the bike of the centre stand whilst he was sat astride, , ignition on and in gear, fucker started as soon as the wheel hit the deck and the bike took off like a rodeo bull. Right outside the dealership.:D

The side stand position took a little to get used to, but it's not too bad

The centre stand however seems further back than on the hexhead... that used to be beautifully balanced for getting on and off the centre stand in a controlled way, the WC seem to need a different technique
