hello and greetings from a very sunny Rissani ,near erg chebbi, morocco;

i have spotted a small oil leak from the drive shaft on my bike, it is from the round black seal in the center of the wheel. Does any body have some tips on how to top it up. i am away from home for three weeks or so. Apart from thqt the bike is doing very well,2000 miles and no (engine) oil needed

all the best

Fingers crossed you won't need to......if it's got really hot out there, it may just have squeezed a bit out past the seal.

Keep an eye on it, and wobble the wheel to check for play....if no further leakage and no play you'll be fine.

ok thanks

thanks for that, it has put my mind at rest. i had visons of a locked up wheel around a tight bend with a lorry coming the other wayand a shear drop of 1million feet, you know how it is.

Anyway off for some cos-cos

All the best,

Adam

Wouldn't worry about it. They all do that to some extent.

Mine does'nt nor does my mates. Oil seals are designed to keep oil in, so if oils leaking it's because it's failed. The FD is not totally full of oil and has plenty of room for the oil to expand. My guess is that the seal has not been fitted correctly or the bearing is allowing shaft movement. Get BMW to record the problem just in case it gets worse.
