snow chains?

once again its that time of year to start thinking of going to the elephant and my mind turned to snow chains. ive looked on google so know what sort of stuff is out there, but wondered if anyone has experience of any or even made there own? i rekon swing arm clearence is going to be an issue and they will need to be easy to fit and remove. also, is it best to use them with road tyres or knobblies? hmm. the exitement builds....

I've not used either myself, but a frien of mine had great success with the Wunderlich chains on an 1100GS

dont want snow tyres or studs - got to get from here to there. like the skis though, been thinking along those lines. lets see what happens in the next few weeks eh....... keep the snow picis coming....

On paralever its impossible use chains in rear, becouse wheel is so close swinging arm? Or try find very thin tyre and use spacer to move wheel max. 4mm.

Why dont use very light studs, about 1.3mm long. So then you can drive on dry and icy roads. Or are studs illegal in GB?

I recommed very rough tyres on winter use, examble Kings KT965.

Large Zip Ties

When we were at the Elefant rally there were many bikes with large cable ties around their tyres and rims, the buckle/knuckle bit protruding into the snow. Seemed a very simple cheap and certainly effective method.
I'll see if I've got a photo somewhere

I saw a post on ADV Rider the guy had conventional snow chains on a 100PD. He said to fit them he put a spacer between the the wheel and the FD (not like you'd need to guess).

Oh just one other thing. I think he had a sidecar fitted too
