I don't know how anyone can say this bolt is not fit for purpose. On one hand its part of a high tech solution that enable one's 1200 Adventure to travel to far off exotic destinations and not have to worry about pannier lids that won't open due to the vacume created inside whilst travelling 5,000 miles above sea level. WTF... I cant believe BMW have put my life at risk..
My older style panniers do not have that vent and I've been planning over the last 4 years a London to Manchester trip that will take me over the Cat & Fiddle pass - Ive now a real concern that I will not be able to open my pannier get to my sandwiches
Question:
Should I plan a diffent route, maybe the M6 (Im not sure about the toll road though as Ive heard the barrier does not stay open for long enough)?
Could anyone recomend me camping loaction near the buxton end of the pass so that I can set of early in the morning and try and make it withiut having to stop? - And can I book a camping spot in adavance near the entrance (I cant risk a que) - I'll need it in June 2014 if that helps
I've got the old style one's as well - I can assure you that there'll be no problem getting your sarnies out. But if you leave them in there by accident the resultant methane a few days later may just blow the locks out

Thinking about it, maybe that's the real reason for the vent.......
