So my new gs is dangerous

Ooooops :blast

Have you thought of putting a claim in to WMB for a new phone as clearly, the top box is not fit for purpose (see post #8 for a full explanation) :thumb

No, sometimes Andres, you have to take a long hard look at yerself and say 'Yup, today I was a twat..'

This is something Bakerman does regularly ... :D

My older style panniers do not have that vent and I've been planning over the last 4 years a London to Manchester trip that will take me over the Cat & Fiddle pass - Ive now a real concern that I will not be able to open my pannier get to my sandwiches

Question:
Should I plan a diffent route, maybe the M6 (Im not sure about the toll road though as Ive heard the barrier does not stay open for long enough)?

Could anyone recomend me camping loaction near the buxton end of the pass so that I can set of early in the morning and try and make it withiut having to stop? - And can I book a camping spot in adavance near the entrance (I cant risk a que) - I'll need it in June 2014 if that helps

Easy. Follow the same route, but have your panniers and sandwiches carried in a support van which follow you. In fact, if you have a spare rider, when you need a break, he can take over riding the bike whicle you sit in the van eating your butties.

I don't know how anyone can say this bolt is not fit for purpose. On one hand its part of a high tech solution that enable one's 1200 Adventure to travel to far off exotic destinations and not have to worry about pannier lids that won't open due to the vacume created inside whilst travelling 5,000 miles above sea level. WTF... I cant believe BMW have put my life at risk..

I've got the old style one's as well - I can assure you that there'll be no problem getting your sarnies out. But if you leave them in there by accident the resultant methane a few days later may just blow the locks out :D Thinking about it, maybe that's the real reason for the vent.......

Don't know that screw, but watch out for the heat shield on the back of the Vario panniers, got a very deep cut of one of them :rob

You mean to say you shut the lid knowing it wouldn't open again? Oh, the shame of it! Take a leaf out go my book. Leave the lid open and put a cargo net over the top of the box and over the up turned lid - just as good and the lid can be filled up as well. Don't thank me - it's a pleasure to be of service.
Just read the oil level thread as well. Beggars belief.
The sun's out as well this w/e so look out for Volvo drivers gawping at that bright thingy in the sky instead of where they are going....

Fluff

It has damaged my brand new arai tour x4 with a deep gouge

Deep gouge :jes :jes

I bet you tell the wimmin you've got a 10 inch cock too :augie:augie

I once gave myself a rather nasty paper cut when thumbing through the owners manual to find out which kind of oil to use. It has made me seriously reconsider whether I should continue with the biking malarkey, they're bloody death traps.

My new lids got a deep gouge in too.... Oh and I have three broken ribs. Enduro bikes and showing off Is to blame. Think ill sue gas gas for making their bikes so unstable:rob

I'd suggest you consider a different mode of transport,.motorcycles can damage clothing and bones :blast

If you never drop it even without damage which is poss you will be the first unless it stays in the garage and that ain't a guarantee

As an aside, the vent was added on later models due to customer feed back that condensation was forming in sealed boxes.

Does this vent also stop the panniers "locking" at altitude ?

Cut off a heat shield?

I would of looked at that and said "that looks sharp"

I would of had my gloves on

It's only a cut I can't see a problem

I would of just put a file to it
