So, what are the symptoms of fuel pump controller failure?..

Bike running fine.

Bike stalls.

Bike won't restart or maybe just catches then stalls again.

Whilst inspecting the bike to see if there's anything obvious wrong I notice that the final drive oil seal is leaking too... :(

Bad day at the office.

It's an '06 GSA BTW.

If you switch the ignition on and don't here the "buzz" from the vacinity of the LHS tank panel, it'll be the FPC.

Sounds about right. Mine cut out twice in a year for no reason and restarted fine. One day in the middle of nowhere I stopped using the killswitch and sure enough, it killed it.

New FPC (redesigned component) and all has been well since.

As for a leaking final drive, I'm now on my third and change the oil myself, none of this 'sealed for life' bollocks.

Just checking you know the workaround???

Sounds a lot like what most people have reported.

Sorry.

20 minute job to fix, though and not much longer for the seal. So, chin up.

Not necessarily. After I replaced the FPC on mine today, switched on and no noise from pump but starts and runs OK. It doesn't pump all of the time, only when it needs to.

If you run the bypass then of course it will run all of the time.

Final drive oil seals are covered by warranty / insured warranty.

OK It's on its way to Park Lane BMW. It was almost due its 18K service anyway.

From the posts above, am I right in understanding that the replacement FPC is more robust or should I be looking at making one of these bypass cables?

I guess the question is has anyone had two FPC failures on the same bike?

My original FPC had a smaller heatsink with the fins at a different angle. When I pulled it apart, the power handling capacitor had failed. The new FPC has more metal around the capacitor area.

Be sure to ask the dealer for your old failed FPC back, so you have the blue wiring connector from it which is required to make the workaround cable.

Yes thanks :blast, 06 bike. Original FPC failed Sept (ish IIRC) last year, replaced under BMW insured Warranty. That replacement failed March this year... Got about 5 months and 1800 miles out of it, (the bike was in storage for a large proportion of the 5 months while we had building work done, hence not a lot of miles done :P).

I'll look into the workaround myself for future reference, but as the bike is still under my (extended) warranty, I'll keep claiming on that for new parts...

Cheers,
Dave.
