How many years in the tank regiment? ie, how loudly will we have to talk? I said, HOW LOUDLY WILL WE HAVE TO TALK??
If he’s as deaf as I am from 22 years down the engine room, shouting will be the order of the day.

Only just seen this.
Thought I’d mention that I’ve done a couple of UKGSer day out rides around this area in the past.
If you’re going to the Tank museum then 5 minutes along the road is Clouds Hill, Lawrence of Arabia’s cottage, just before the cottage in a tank training viewing area set back from the road is a plaque at the spot where he was killed.
And another couple miles away in the village of Moreton is his grave.
If on a bike you have the option of riding through Moreton forest on a dirt road (fully legal, cars also use it). It requires riding through a ford just as you get to Moreton. The normal tarmac road is quicker.
In Moreton there’s the old school house cafe, great food, and the church in Moreton is the only one in the UK with clear glass windows that are etched ..

An old picture (one of Fanums , mine have all disappeared from my ride reports) of the ford at Moreton.. it is possible to drive a car/van through the forest up to the ford, and walk across the footbridge into Moreton.

I’m deaf too (moderate to sever hearing loss in mid-range) and wear hearing aids, so it’s going to be an EPIC evening of shouting and expressive mime!

The ford at Moreton is quite wide with loose gravel as a base, often deep in places and can be deceptively fast flowing. I've seen a few bikes come a cropper there.

Most use the bridge.

Guilty as charged M'lud. :D

Bridge for me too. Done the ford a couple of times, but it's quite easy to balls it up if there's more than a little water flowing.

Took about an hour and a half to get an Africa Twin going after being dropped in there once.

I say once. After picking it up mid stream the owner managed to push it straight over the other way back under water, so twice :)

Three of us rode the ford and I almost dropped it.

Two mates returned again later to have another go, one ingested water then tried to crank it over on the bank and ripped the starter motor dowel out of his crankcase as I wasn't there with my plug spanner.....doh !!

Depends what time of year, summer can be very shallow and slow flowing.. I’d imagine February will be the complete opposite ..

I’ve a video recorded driving my Range Rover through the ford and a small inflatable paddling desperately to get out of the way ., anyway of me being able to post it ?

Anyway, couple pics from Morton

Thanks for this info, I would enjoy a bit of TE Lawrence history. I'm already excited for this event... :D

Moreton is a lovely place, especially the church and its windows, TE Lawrence's grave is a bit further up the road nearer the walled garden which has a reasonable tea room. I think the Moreton ford must be one of the longest I've come across, always seems a bit b=deep and swift to me, not man enough for it! The children have seen kingfishers there, I always seem to miss them

As we turn to commence our run up towards the mince pies and crackers and Old Father Time lifting the bails on 2024…..

Let’s not forget what 2025 ushers in with the new ball.
