Just had the 6k service today on the GSA. It had a software update due that allegedly improves the smoothness of the gear changes. Mine hasn't got the quickshifter so not quite sure what it is supposed to do? :nenau

Gearbox on this bike is already an improvement on my original standard 14 reg bike. :thumb2

As its a software update it'll probably run really slow and ask for the password every time you try and change gear.

Had that done about a month ago and didn't noticed any difference. Mines a very early 13 plate and the gearbox is pretty good. Not upto Japanese or UK manufacturers standards but apart from a bit of a clunk into first it's as quiet as a mouse up and down the box. Clutchless shifts 2-3-4-5-6 up and 6-5-4-3 down are quite acceptable.

That's interesting. My bike was in today for its 3rd birthday service and MOT and got given a software update. Unfortunately, neither of the two service receptionists with whom I spoke had the slightest idea what the update was supposed to do, and having now ridden 50 odd miles I can't identify anything which is the slightest bit different. But, like yours, my 13 plate bike has always had a pretty smooth gearbox and does clutchless up shifts admirably.

So, does anyone know what the software update is supposed to do?

Mine 2015 bike with Shift Assist was given such an update at the 6K service last October. No, I haven't noticed any improvement to date either.

Apparently helps with a smoother gear change. I had it applied to my 13 plate at the 12k service last week, dealer mentioned it not me.

I can't tell bugger all difference and to be honest the service guy was somewhat nonchalant as he explained it to me. He's probably sick of answering the question "How the fuck is that supposed to work?"

I don't know when the software update was first implemented but my March 16GSA has a smoother gear change than the previous BMW bikes I have had.

I was told that the update was to help prevent low rev stalling and that it might help with the gear change. If i am coasting to a junction, clutch in, say in 4th and click (crunch) down the gears the bike now gives a very small blip of revs with each change. It has not made any difference to the crowbar stiring a bucket of scaffold clips gear change of my gearbox.

I had this done when the bike was last in for warranty (kept stalling - generally when shifting down from 3rd down) - probably March 2016. After the update, the engine felt smoother, there was less transmission lash at 30mph or in 2nd / 3rd and the bike hasn't stalled since.
