I have recently had my 2010GSA in for its 6000 service.
when I picked it up after it had all been done I ws told that mine has had a big software update.
I asked what this meant and was told 'the GSA has a CPU that is like a computer and it needs updates now and then'

anyone know what these updates do or what effect they have on the bike?

I was just wondering as the same day I stopped at Devils Bridge on my way home and got chatting to a fellow tosser type on a similar 2010 GSA (sorry forgot your name) who seemed to suggests that the CPU records data on how you ride and the way you ride it. ie if you ring the neck off it from cold and red line it regular or just trundle around all the time never taking it above 3000rpm etc.
and that these software updates are bike specific in order to accomodate your riding style......something along the lines of re-mapping the fueling and the ignition and all that kind of technical mumbo jumbo that makes the bike go

Im a bit sceptical myself on his reason for the update just cant see it being the case myself (bike specific updates that is) but then thinking about it what else could this software update be for:nenau

over to you guys. anyone know what the updates are for and what they do or change?

Load of nonsense!

:rob

They have to programme it to explode as soon as the warranty expires.

all modern cars and bikes have control systems that are known as adaptive, all it means is that the ecus try to adjust all parameters such as fuel quantity and igniton timing to best suit how you use the throttle and gears etc.
software updates usally just try to alter the maps in the ecu to make for instance, cold idle without stalling situations better or to eliminate flat spots etc,so all in no big deal just a way to improve ridabilty and all that.

Afteru first update the tank range went up from 220 to 250 miles. Happy days![/QUOTE

Cant say I have noticed any difference in the performance TBH but I havent done many miles since the service.
They did say that they had to sync the throtles but again cant seem to detect anything different maybe I need to do a few more miles

Modern engine management is carried out by a computer, the computer needs software to do anything useful.

Over time (if a manufacturer is bothered) the software will be refined, minor problems fixed or improvements made. BMW has decided to share the improvements.

It is a bit like Windows (only more reliable), you get service updates every so often that make your PC runner better, or fix problems that could appear under specific situations.
