This is the method I opted for.
Just made a bit of plating to tease out my HB frame just enough to mount a rotopax on the inside and clear the swing arm.

Thanks John, I think for the amount if times I'm actually going to need the extra fuel Rotopax is probably what I need.

If you hang fire, I am getting a Rotopax type tank from South Africa - about £40 instead of £90+......if you wanted one I can order two, shipping will be the same. I have work to do in Kent / Sussex too!

I have a spare, unused X Tank. Getting really hard to find, but an excellent bit of kit and very, very definitely an appreciating classic add on to the X Series. As there are so few around, I think digging deep would be in order and say £2,000? Absolute bargain for someone and will easily take the value of your bike up to 10K. 
. (PS - on a serious note, the tank is promised to GFJ if he still wants it. If not then it will be up for grabs a very reasonable rate.
