Hello Im wondering if anyone can help

I recently bought an R100r and its not running right

Im told it was stood a couple of years before I bought it and the symptoms are
It seems to take a while for the revs to drop when shutting off leaving me short of engine braking

It has a stutter or maybe a misfire

The engine seems to hunt when riding at a constant speed

Ive taken the plugs out and one is definitely been running richer than the other and if I had to describe the feeling its almost like the choke is constantly partially on.

Oh and the carbs are 40mm Bings with no apparent faults ..... diaphragms are sound and it fires up fine

Thanks for looking

Chris

Hi

I would remove and inspect the carb on the side that gets sooty. Things to check are:

whether any airways are blocked, whether the slide moves up and down freely in the carb body, whether the needle is set at the right height and the correct size jets are fitted.

If everything is clean and correct I would retune the carbs and then balance them. Dont forget to record the positions of the mixture and idle screws before you start so you can put it back as it was if you get in a mess.

Good luck.

I had a problem with rich running at low rpm. Turned out it was the I rings that sit under the lip at the top of the slide. Both had swelled preventing the slides from bottoming properly. Pop your carbs off and look in the inlet side to see if they are dropping all the way down. New I rings fitted and it was back to normal.
