Just had the big yellow box on the TFT saying my SOS system has gone tits up, and I should make an appointment with a dealer etc.,

This has happened before when I have been in an area where the cell phone reception is poor, and it has subsequently fixed itself, but this time it isn't going away, the little yellow triangle stays lit up.

Are there any checks to do before a 40 odd mile hike to the local dealer, who obviously won't be able to fit me in on a Saturday this side of the next ice age so I'll have to take time off work, etc.?

(and yes, before anyone leaps in with their opinions about the pointlessness of SOS systems, I know I don't NEED an SOS system, but I've paid for the bloody thing so it should work, and the warning light annoys me)

Disconnect battery and wait a minute, this happen on cars also

Hope you have better luck than I did with my RT. 5 weeks in the dealer. No fix. Two other visits. Finally changed the tele metrics module and another software update. No warning on the ride home; but jury is still out

I had this on my 2018 GSLC and it drove me insane! Dealer couldn't fix it. Went back so many times. In the end I swapped the bike. Too many gizmos

I have it on my 2018 GSLC and I think it only threw a wobbly once. It was fixed with an update. Like many, I considered it a gimmick, but it came as part of a TFT package (at the time), I could have had it without, but would have to have waited for delivery for about 2 months as a factory order :nenau . For the sake of €300, I just had it.

Let people laugh, but many don't know that it's not just for personal use. If you encounter an accident, or one of your goup comes off and injures themselves, you can use it to call the emergency services as well. They tend to have your co-ordinates and know where you are. Those valuable seconds could mean the difference between life and death and hopefully none of us will ever need it; but far better to have it and never need it, than the other way around. It might just save the day for someone, if not for yourself, so let them scoff. :nenau

It does work. I came off (stationary) with my missus on the back when a friend of mine stopped too soon on a gravelly surface and I had my handlebars over to the left. Over we went and in the hubub we didn't notice the voice: "Hello!, Is everythig alright? This is BMW emergency services." I was quite impressed.

What the f*** does "My bad" mean????????????????????????????????

It means fuck all its not even proper English. Some stupid nonsense imported from the yanks.

And again oh dear, get over yourselves

Thanks Winjar,

It worked. Fingers crossed, it’ll remain ok.

I live in a location where the phone signal is variable & poor, I imagine it calls a set number of times to log on to the system when you turn the bike on, and then gives up and flashes the yellow triangle if it doesn’t get a reply. At least the fix is simple.

Thanks again
