SOS system failure

I bought my '24 GSA in late July and earlier this month I too got this Emergency Call Restricted pop up on the TFT along with the orange error triangle on the right side. I could get rid of the error splash screen by clicking the wonder wheel to the left however the error triangle persisted. When I got home I scanned with the GS-911 and found the error in the Emergency Telematics Module. I cleared the fault but it comes back. A couple of weeks later the error light went off on it's own and when scanned the error was no longer present. It came back yesterday.

I had emailed the service rep at the dealer along with pics of the splash screen error msg along with a print out of the scanned fault code.

He got back to me today explaining that this 'known' issue is 'not quite' a recall however there is a service solution in the form of a software update which is covered by the warranty. I'll drop it off tomorrow morning and he says it may take up to 4 hours.......I'll leave it with them for the day. Fingers crossed it'll fix it, ironically this SOS featured isn't even activated for North America yet. The service rep wasn't aware that this feature existed on the GSA as 2024 is the first year it came with it. In fairness to him the dealership sells Triumph, Ducati, Indian ad nauseum........

Had the SOS error on my '23 Trophy.
Chester Motorrad had the bike for a day and whatever BMW software update they used, appears to have sorted.
Many thanks Chester Motorrad!

It will fix it and it won't take 4 hours. Mine was serviced and the error fixed within 2 hours.

I had my update completed at Halliwell Jones Motorrad in Chester as well. Great service.

Well I took it in this morning and the update took 1 hour. My bike, which was built in May, had the TFT display software up to date however there was new version for the Ground Control Module which controls LED lighting and this Emergency SOS device. Had it needed or taken the full TFT update it would have taken much longer. The shop foreman said that the fault had cleared etc but if it returns I guess it's back to the drawing board. He had heard that it may be something to do with the mic being too sensitive and/or not being able to complete a 'handshake' with a cell tower.

On a side note, I parked right beside a new 1300GSA they got in and it was my first time seeing one in person. While I still don't care for the front tank area it does look better in person and the plain grey tank was nice. It does sit lower than mine however that's due to that auto height feature I guess which drops down when off.

Thought I'd got away with it...22 GS SOS fault appeared last week, hoped it would go away but still there with the yellow warning triangle
Contacted Chester and 1st available slot for a software update is 25th November
Said I didn't mind waiting, go see the new bikes and visit the large retail park over the road but service guy rang me back half an hour later and said he'd booked an F900 something out for the day for me. I did ask what they had as service loan bikes....it was the 900....or a 310GS or a scooter

I had a G310R as a loaner from them a few weeks ago, whilst my software update was being done. They're like a 125 on steroids. Never want to experience that again 😂

  • Haha
Reactions: HGS
Well the software update worked for a couple of weeks....started the bike this morning and again that Emergency Call Restricted error splash screen on the TFT. Dealer said I could drop it off and leave it with them then they'd conduct 'tests' with BMW Germany to try and resolve it. Good Lord!
