My sons laptop will not give any sound out of the internal speakers when using iTunes or internet explorer (Youtube for example) & no sound comes out when the headphone socket is used.
The only program that gives any sound is his guitar tune authoring software, Power Tab. If one plays a song, the tune tinkles away meerily on the internal speakers.
Would you suggest uninstalling Power Tab to see what happens or do you have any other ideas?

Any constructive suggestions welcome! I need no further advice on where he can stick his guitar!

Thanks,

John

Right click the little speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen...

Adjust volume properties

Click options, properties in the volume control that opens

Make sure that when playback is selected, all the boxes below are checked.

Make sure that you don't have any volume sliders in the new volume control box at the bottom...

If that doesn't help, perhaps un-installing the power tap software is an idea... (does SKYPE work?)

Sorted, thanks!
The guidance to the volume slider showed that I could not add the volume control to the taskbar.
This was because sndvol32.exe was missing from his laptop :(
