Speed limit indicator query.

Today I connected my phone to the bike for the first time and suddenly a white box with two dashes appeared on the TFT. I couldn’t find anything in the manual but good old google informs me it’s the speed limit warning and it will show the speed limit when I’m riding and the phone’s connected.

What I can’t find info on is whether this works only when the phone is connected with the phone cradle or whether it will work simply by having my phone on me, eg in my pocket?

Obviously I’ll find out by riding the bike, but it’s going to be several days before I’ll be back on it and curiosity will have killed me by then so if anyone can put me out of my misery in the meantime I’d appreciate it

Mine works with my phone in my jacket and connected to the bike via Bluetooth. As ever don't take the speed showing on the dash as gospel as the limit might have changed recently (usually downwards)

No I never take these things as gospel, but at least it’ll be less annoying than the white box with dashes (I know it can be turned off in the settings )

You need to have downloaded the maps appropriate to your location to your phone to get it to work, if you dont then you just get the box with the lines.

Took me about a year to work that one out

The problem with phone in jacket is to use all the features you need to have GPS and Bluetooth on etc, which all drain the battery much faster so whilst popping to work isn't so bad, touring means your phone could be dead much quicker than you realise.

Really? Mine lasts all day long and that's with music playing as well.

Or don't bother with all that malarchy and change the display on your Garmin:
On the map page
Options
Change Data Fields
Chose 'Driving'
And the speed limit, as set in the map, will change from black to red if you're exceeding the limit which, of course, you'd never do...
Simples works.

TBH I've never tried as I have a Nav5 I use, but I do have a heated gilet I use in winter and have 2 PBs for that rather than just 1 which is the approach I'd go for on the bike as I could have 1 plugged into my phone with the other on charge on the bike somewhere so I could swap them over if necessary.

That would be nicer. On other vehicles I've used with the speed limit indicator it's always been a road sign so I did find it a bit odd the first time I saw it on the GSA. Strange that it's different for different countries

Yes I was surprised…maybe something to do with the Kph instead of Mph too.
Be nice if that would eventually change here too.
