I have heard stories about the speedo drives operating at different ratios. I am sure my speedo is operating at around 10% faster than actual speed. Bike is 02 gs1150. Any thoughts appreciated

All speedo are designed to read above actual speed, if you want a closer measure to actual check the speed shown on the gps.I had an Africa twin that was showing 6mph over at 70 but the R1200GS display is only around 3mph fast according the the gps indicator.

You can get different speedo drives for the front wheel spindle which make it more accurate. I’m struggling to remember which one works best but someone may be along with the info soon.

I fitted the 1:2.6 drive from the 1150RT to my '06 1150SE, it worked a treat and brought the speedo reading to within 2mph of the GPS.

Thanks for the responses. It seems odd that I have to get a drive off a different model but I guess motor works will have a solution

It’s all to do with the rolling circumference of the wheel/tyre combo, and getting one from a wheel/tyre that is 5% smaller makes your speedo more accurate

On my 1999 r1150gs the speedo always showed a fast reading according to the sat nav , over 10% at 70mph .

Checked it at work against a calibrated speedo and at a genuine 70 mph the bike was reading 78-79 mph.

Fitted a different speedo drive , for the life of me I can't remember which bike it came from it was either a 17" front wheel model r1150r or from a police spec r1150rt with a 18" front wheel but it brought the speedo accuracy to within 1 mph at 70 mph and spot on at 30mph .

On the two r1200gsa lc models and my old 2011 r1200gsa tc I've owned the electronic driven speedos were spot on
