My GS 1150 speedometer has just give up the ghost? I have checked the connections and they seem fine.

Does anyone know of any simple (ha ha) things that could have gone wrong? Or is it a replacement cable job?

Thanks. :thumb:thumb

Check worm gear at wheel free moving + spacer logs catching properly on to the wheel and cable ok ?

Is the cable the original fit? They are harder to turn as they wear easy to check disconnect the cable both ends and turn the inner cable with your fingers it should turn freely if it does not this resistance will make it harder for the speedo drive to turn the cable and will eventually strip the nylon gears.
So check the speedo drive if there is any damage to the worm drive or the nylon gears replace that and the cable before you start thinking about replacing the speedo unit.

Most likely either a failed cable or drive assembly. Both available readily and if you are changing the drive instead of using the standard GS version talk to the guys at Motorworks and get one that is slightly lower geared, I seem to remember it's the RT version. It goes a long way to making the standard optimistic speedo more accurate. The standard unit reads almost 10% over.

Tried that - the RT version seems to be way out - I mean, by miles. At 30 or 40 it appears to be spot on, then under-reads massively above that.

Means I had a useable spare the next time the drive gear went though!

+1

Just did this job today after finding the nylon speedo drive gears stripped because the original (2004) speedo cable was about goosed.
