Spyball AM8510 trouble

Took the 1150GS out this afternoon after doing the Steptoe wire mod for y piece, ie removed the yellow relay & put a link wire in as per the pics. Less popping on overrun than before (but still some, do I need a chip, do they all pop without the cat?). Anyway, went to go out tonight and the ignition works but Spyball keyfob won't do anything. It has a recent new battery. Tried the spare keyfob, nothing. Bike was immobilised only, then I tried the hazard lights to see if anything was working and tkis set the alarm off.

Managed to use the emergency code procedure to disarm it, and could start the bike. After turining it off it's immobilised itself again and the fobs are not working (did try to re initialise them but this did nothing). This is the first time I've had an alarm on a bike, and probably the last.

I've done a search and it seems like a wire may be dodgy. Before I rip into it (don't even know where the unit's been fitted FFS) has anyone else had exactly this problem, and is there an easy cure? Bike is an 01, and presume the alarm was fitted then. At least this happened at home, where I've got the book to show how to do the emergency thing. Just as well I don't need the bike to get to work tomorrow!

Any advice (of the useful sort) much appreciated!

Yet another alarm giving trouble.

Bin the fecker.

See below......:D

See what below??

Right, have found the unit, undone the fusebox lid, lowered the fusebox base so I can just about get to the wiring from the unit. Is it a case of simply removing the alarm wires where spliced in, and rejoining any that have been cut (if this is too sensitive for public view please someone pm me with any advice). Can I leave the LED alone or does this need to be removed, or wire cut?

I really would have prefered to keep the alarm, but as it's still not playing ball even after 'waggling the wires' and the fuse is OK then I'm going to have to assume it's fecked, unless anyone else knows different.
Any pitfalls I am likely to fall into tomorrow night when I remove the alarm? Am I likely to end up with a permanently immobilised GS?!

As stated, any help much appreciated.:thumb2

See the other threads below about the fecking alarms ;)

Anyway you are on the right track, I removed mine last year after repeated soakings. All the wiring and splicing for the alarm had all been done in black wire. I can understand why, and it in fact made it easier to unstitch it. Chill a bit, have a good look at it all and take your time. Just deal with one connection at a time, peel back the plastic tape around all the connections and you should find the original colour coded wires. Match them up and if in doubt check your wiring diagram. I would suggest that you solder them back together after slipping a section of heat shrink on first and then sealing them.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I removed my older spyball last night. Take it slow, match up all the wires before you cut anything, buy a good lock.

The fecker is binned. GS now starts, what a novelty! Abus front & back, and no chance of being immobilised in the backend of nowhere. Thanks for the advice, shame it's raining again tomorrow!

Mike,
Same problem as you - washed bike last night and now I can't start it.
I wouldn't mind but today is the first nice sunny day we have had and I had a big trip planned.
Where did you locate your spyball unit? I reckon I'll have to do the same as you and disconnect and bin the feckin thing.
