Square or Round

Hi all,
Av just had a new GS1200. Looking to go down to North Devon a few times from the Midlands on it this year. Most of the journey is gonna be on Motorway & dual carriageway. Question is, will I square off my tyres if I take this route on a regular basis? Ok, i could go A roads, but on motorway i am still looking at 3hrs +. Gonna be doin some work down there, so wanna be gettin down there & back fairly quickly. Just don`t wanna bugger up my tyres! I know these bikes are a good distance bike, but maybe the tyres ain`t gonna like a lot of straight roads! Any comments?

Welcome to the 1200's Stupid Questions List . How long have you been riding motorcyles and is it longer than your registration date here? You're not doing your colleagues any favours...

The reason I ask is because unless you take your bike to the edge of its' road tyres frequently, and subject them to notable duress, you will always end up wasting 10mm or so either side so, as already said, so just use them and replace them when you think it's necessary.

Yes you will square off your tyre...the best tyre for the job is a rp3 that a road pilot 3.....Do the research

Chapperz, I have a 500 mile round trip weekly commute on motorway (down on a mpnday and back on fridays), and use the GS once or twice a month for the trip. I have had no noticable squaring off of tires.

When i'm forced to take the Motorway, I find that using all 3 lanes and weaving in and out, thereby creating bends/curves. Then i dont square off my rear tyre.

Of course he does add another 1/3 to the length of the journey

Run with 2psi in rear, 4psi in front will balance up the wear nicely.

Lock the bike in the garage and catch a train/bus. Less tyre wear and safer...........for us all

Practice long wheelies, this reduces wear on the front wheel.
