Start the 02 1150GSA up from cold and I hear a squealing sound - like a squeaking alternator belt. It goes away after about a minute, not to be heard until next time I start up from cold. No performance issues, so was wondering if its something to worry about and if its something to fix easily...

Is your alternator belt loose?
If not the starter motors can make a squealing noise when the drive pinion gear gets dirty and picks up clutch dust, easy job to remove and clean with some solvent. theres a nice how to just down the page :thumb2

It'll be your alternator belt.

If it was the starter motor squealing for a minute after starting your foot would be on fire :D

My alternator squeals a bit when starting from cold. It's not the belt, but the bearing in the front, behind the pulley - it rattles too. Still charges OK but I'll need to change it eventually.

A squirt of WD40 shuts it up for a few days but the squeal soon comes back.

Hi had the exact problem u describe so when i pulled of the alternator belt cover and found that the belt was half its normal width .I replaced this yesterday and hey presto no more squeeking.Lucky for me as i did Glasgow to Belfast in the pissing rain today and it was not the weather for breakin down.cheers :thumb2
