Hi All,
I've been having a problem for about a year with my 2007 R1200GS Adv. The problem is intermittent and four different BMW dealerships/specialists have been unable to identify a problem. The symptoms are
1) when the fuel gets below ~1/2 tank it starts to randomly cut out.
I've checked the fuel lines, checked and replaced just in case but the problem persists. I've tried everything and the dealerships have been unable to find anything. The big issue is that when the bike cuts out its... umm scary and possibly life threatening in the wrong situation. The problem only started to happen when the fuel pump controllers got replaced as a part of the official recall. I've since had them replaced again as a just in-case precaution (at zero cost). I've even ridden along with my GS911 and phone acting as a data logger and there are no error codes generated when the bike cuts out.. it's a silent and very annoying bug which has only been happening for the last year and even then the level or frequency when the problem occurs is variable.
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it could be? I thought that it could be the fuel pump that could not keep up the pressure or something but the dealership apparently said that wouldn't happen.. it's either on or off and as I don't know anything about it I am trying to learn and come up with a solution. Does the fuel pump give an error message when it doesn't pump fuel? I know that if the pump is disconnected i get an error.. Diagnosing this problem has been a fun and at times painful experience so any assistance or advice would be really appreciated.
Regards,
Jimmy.
