Did you check the fuse? Regardless of how the battery is, if the fuse is blown, your clock will reset everytime you turn on the ignition.
 
Its an easy job to pull the starter off, and there are a couple of things in there that benefit from a clean and a dab of grease, spend half an hour doing that and you will know if you need a starter, as a bonus if you dont need a starter you will have one that is quieter and smoother :thumb2

Have you tried checking fuse 3 before the expense of batteries and starter motors? This fuse going causes the clock to reset.

This happened on my R1150GS and a big thank you to Steptoe for pointing me in the right direction.
 
It's not resetting on every start, but often enough to render it inacurate.

Appreciate all the tips folks, thank you. I am at home with a child off school today, so perhaps I can sneak to the garage and have a look at the fuse, if nothing else.
