startup question

yet another newbie question! (sorry about these but i have looked through the owners manuals but cant find the answers i need)

now when turning on the bike the warning lights come on (not the pre ride warning light check bit i know thats fine) the engine warning light and the battery warning light come on but go out when i start the bike. is this normal?
