STELVIO TEST RIDE TOMORROW

Struck a deal on the Guzzi today so the GS goes in as PX and I ride away on my NTX on 1st March.
Looking forward to becoming a Guzzi owner again (20-years since the last one). :D

A good choice I think. Must say, a Stelvio next for me too probably. Never had a Guzzi but it's a scratch that needs itching.

Cheers, Colin

I test rode an ntx when they came out 3 years ago and really, really wanted to like it, finish was brilliant and I loved the looks but my test was in very hot weather and after an hour or so it sounded like a bag of hammers, the gearbox went iffy and the neutral was difficult to find.
It was cramped two up and the front forks were way too soft when pushing on
In the end my head ruled my heart, due to no local dealers and worries of depreciation I bought the GSA for the same price.
That said solo the Super Tenere is better than both of them imho

So how are you enjoying the Guzzi ?

Pics ?

Really enjoying it, it's everything the GS was and then some.
It took some getting used to having conventional front forks again but I think I am there now. After all my years of moaning about the GS indicator switches it almost seemed strange going back to a normal switch again. Fuel consumption is pretty poor returning only 40MPG where the GS was returning 45MPG+ but maybe it will get better as it loosens up? Comfort wise I seem to be getting pins & needles in my hands but can't work out if that is because the bars are slightly higher or because of the vibration (which isn't too bad to be perfectly honest), otherwise the seat is great and I don't get the neck pain I always got with the GS.
It sounds lovely and I have no idea how the standard exhaust gets through the noise test, the slightly uneven running at low revs also results in quite a nice crackle on over-run!

All in all I am really glad I bought it, I know they don't hold value like a GS but I kept the GS for over 10-years so if I keep the Stelvio for a similar length of time I think I will have got my monies worth regardless of the trade-in at the end of the day.
Disapointed with the dealer so I will be looking elsewhere for the next service. I reported that it cuts out during warm-up (fine on start-up and fine after about 1-mile, it is just the bit in-between) but they said the fuel mapping was ok and it didn't do it to them so there can't be a problem. Spoke to Moto Guzzi UK and they were really helpful with suggestions on what to do and instructions to monitor it and then return it to the dealer for investigation. After all the interweb moaning about MGUK it would appear I have had the opposite experience. As it turns out the cutting out is now happening less & less as the mileage increases so maybe it was just while it was new & tight, only time will tell?

No decent photos yet, am off on some long runs soon so might get some then.

Funny enough , just after posting on this thread I've just been down my local for a pint and this was moored up outside !!

V nice, in a non GS kind of way

I saw a used one for sale the other day which had an aftermarket beak of some kind which actually transformed the look of the bike/headlamps.:thumb
Still loving my 1200 sport which has the same engine and chassis components. Off to Scotland for 3 days this weekend and approx 1100 miles. I think my knees will wish I'd bought the Stelvio:)

14 mts ago I was on the verge of buying an NTX Stelvio, but there where one or two things that stopped me, the main being it all felt very cramped two up and our feet seemed to get in each others way.
So,off I whent and bought a new 1200wc.

Now don't get me wrong the WC is a great bike,(apart from the ongoing gearbox problems which are really starting to annoy me),but I just find myself looking at the Stelvio all the time.

I'm going to arrange another test as it really seems to be an itch that needs to be scratched.

Strangely enough it's not like me to dither I usually make my decisions fairly quickly, but as I've always said "If there's doubt, there's no doubt"and I think it's this slight doubt of the unknown that's stopping me from moving forward ??

We shall see.

Steve

Well,I've been and tested it again and wrote a little write up, but in the wrong thread:blast
Anyhow,at this moment in time I'm 95% certain I'm going to order an NTX on Saturday,

Steve

Ended up ordering it yesterday afternoon.

I didn't like the Matt metallic green of the NTX and I'm not a lover of black,so Andy at Teasdale motorcycles said he'll change the panels for moon white.:thumby:

Joanne thinks I'm crazy swapping a 16mth old 1200gs wc with all the bells and whistles and giving them money for a Stelvio,I'm hoping it's going to develop into a deep and meaningful relationship.

Time will tell.

Steve

Enjoy it Steve

I thought BMW residuals were strong though:)

What's the difference between the normal Stelvio & the NTX ?

Still think of the stelvio as a bike that should have been released 5 or more years earlier to compete against the 1150gs and it would have done much better , it just seems to be slightly out of phase with the more modern stuff though no doubt owners will say it is part of its charm

Well there will be many on here who think you're bonkers (me included), but who cares! Owning and riding a motorbike is about how it makes you feel and the journeys you go on, not the paper specifications.

Enjoy your new steed, and post some pics of it in white! :thumb

It's not about speed and power

It's about how you like your bike to ride

Every bike is good in it's own way

Not so sure about the residuals !BMW wanted £4,600 to swap my 2013 wc for a 2015 wc.

Not that much difference between standard and NTX. NTX has,Alloy luggage, spot lights.larger screen and some winglet things, crash bars, hand guards.

What's the difference between the normal Stelvio & the NTX ?

The Stelvio NTX has wire wires (tubeless tyre compatible and similar to those on KTMs) has engine bars, little spot lights, handgurds, and TRAX panniers as standard.
The normal/cooking Stelvio has none of the above, but has some rather nice looking alloy wheels, which I'm quite tempted to fit to my NTX.

Congratulations to Steve on getting his Stelvio, I hope you enjoy it as much as I'm enjoying mine. Just remember to use synthetic 10/60 oil in it.

Cheers Steve

I fancy taking one out now & they look good in white

That's not good news on the BMW price front - these bikes aren't what they were
