Stelvio -v- V85TT

I'm on 3400mls on my Stelvio now. The gearbox has loosened up nicely, it still clunks a little into first but nothing like it did. Otherwise the gearbox is very nice. It's a quicker bike than it appears, I often glance down and think 'whoops' A couple of slight niggles. One of the screen adjuster pivot pins went AWOL, soon replaced. I discovered a slight oil leak at the bottom of the engine gearbox mating. There was an 8mm bolt missing. I suspect it had never been put in. I had a suitable bolt which I put in and have had no problem since. I have spent ages messing with the suspension. I have also dropped the triple tree one ring down the forks. The suspension now feels OK but I'll still swap it when anything suitable is available. Overall it's a great bike and I'm still loving it.
Is it a better bike than the V85? I would say on the whole 'yes' but the V85 is still a better bike on the tight gnarly back roads. I made a mistake swapping the V85 for a V7 but it's going back and a V85 is on it's way...
I can relate to that. The racks for the side cases on my Garda D’onore were loose. I bolt was cross threaded. I’ve also had a problem with 1 bolt while fitting a hugger. Got to say I LOVE it. I traded a nt1100 for it. I do notice the bit of less power very seldom. Got a surprise when joining a motorway on the ramp a car accelerated to cut me off. Matter of opening the throttle a bit wider than I would’ve in the nt. would I buy the bigger Stelvio? I would but couldn’t justify the xtra cost. JJH

Pretty crap that the Stelvio is not a cheap bike yet the OE suspension is not fit for purpose .

………looks like it’s been stored in wooden garage though. If that’s even relevant?! lol

Apologies Retroman, but started another thread on the 85. Not that relevant to your’s anyway. More 85 tuning centric. 🤔

Shock factory offer a shock for the Stelvio, anyone try it? https://shock-factory.fr/en/1243-stelvio-2024

Matris as well offers shocks and a fork upgrade I know because they emailed me saying so. But I can't fine the old email.

I have the Shock Factory M-Shock on my V85TT and very pleased with it. I've also had them on my Bonneville previousy, as well as my wife's Ducati Dcrambler and R NineT. They are very well specc'd for the money and damping quality and control has always impressed me.

I'll have a look at those . Thanks for the info.

Shock Factory also build all their shocks to order, so will do lowered shocks at no extra cost. Apparently, they've done a lot for the V85TT.

Not that it's not fit for purpose. On good surfaces it's actually quite good. It's just when you get onto the more technical stuff.
100%. I've got mine setup just right now. More than happy with the suspension. Just done 1000 miles on the Wild Atlantic Way, and it's been great!!! Seat needs replacing (for my taste) tho .. big days in the saddle are sore for me

I tried to order from the 'Shock factory' this morning it wouldn't accept my post code and didn't have the UK listed on it's list of countries. I'll try another way tomorrow.

were you using the UK website? There's a French one as well.

https://shock-factory.co.uk/ has links to the two UK stockists and the French one for non-UK purchases - they do not sell direct in the UK

Blimey that is a bargain for someone. But the.45 Peacemaker remains holstered (at least, for now).
Maybe head over to Jazbee’s thread and then Ipswich?!
Blow cobwebs off widowmaker too! 🤣🤣

Regards the Stelvio suspension....
Faffed with mine a bit (starting off from Clifton advice iirc) , and I'm now quite happy with the standard equipment.
Having done 1600 miles on all the varied roads of the West Ireland coast, I can say it's pretty good.
The seat however, isn't, not doing so many miles day in day out, but we're all individuals....
I'll be looking for a new seat long before doing anything about the suspension 👍

Just to add, in 1600 miles on Irish roads, travelling with a GS, the Stelvio was never shown lacking in either power or handling, it portraid itself impeccably
My V85TT, however, didn't show itself so well in the company of big BMW boxer bikes, I had to work the little 850 very hard to maintain speeds that 1200/1250 riders achieve with ease . The big thing for me is the 2500-4000 rev range, the Stelvio picks up it's panniers and propels you out of corners (or overtake manoeuvres) in a similar way to a big BMW boxer, plenty of torque for real world riding....no need for stirring the gearbox which is (for me) one of the things I really like about touring on bigger bikes. Weather/wind protection it much improved over the v85 meaning dual carriageway are also more pleasant...
