just read in the sunday world that bmw motorrad are offering sterling service.
this is where they bring in prereg bikes from england and sell them through the dealers.
the claim is we get bikes at the sterling price and the dealers get to keep the customer who would have gone north or to england instead.
so bikes at import prices with full warranty and dealer back up, what do you think.good or bad idea
anyone want to buy 06 gs

I was telling a bmw employee at the bikeshow that I was interested in the x-challenge - told him I read here that they had stopped production. He said if I wanted one they'd bring it in through the uk - brand new out of the crate matching the english price. I could then pick it up at the locale dealers.

I wonder though?

Are they taking the hit on the VRT?

This was mentioned on the Fish Dash yesterday. It seems to be a similar thing to what BMW are doing with their cars...........the dealer (or rather BMW) effectively swallow the VRT, plus perhaps some of the other costs.

Someone who knows more will be along shortly.............

dont think the vrt is the problem,i was talking to a bmw dealer recently who said that anyone could buy a new bike in england for about 2500 less than he can buy it off bmw here.
bmw are doing this with the cars in a while it seems to be a if you cannot beat them join them idea but what affect has it had on secondhand values

I'd be surprised if they are matching the UK prices.

There's a thread on boards.ie about them doing it with the cars, but still adding a fair margin. Something like €10k was mentioned on a relatively high end car, but it still worked out a few grand cheaper than the official irish one.

just saw a price on biker.ie

€16,350 for a new GSA.

In one swoop that's just wiped a fortune off our second hand bikes.

i saw that and said hmm a new gsa for 16,300 i could go for that, then i thought :blast:blast that means that my 06 gs has gone down in value to the point of being nearly wortless
A new standard gs is being advertised for $13500 or something like that
