Sticky throttle.

I found the throttle to be too light on mine. Very easy to inadvertently give it a bit, even with thin gloves on.

<2000RPM seems an awfully low engine speed.

I'm inclined to agree but I've not done anything like firefly in watching out for it.

The reason I am saying below 2000 rpm is because it appears to only happen when off throttle at low road speeds. I do agree with conkerman the throttle is very light and responsive, having ridden a 1150 GSA for 12 years with a cable throttle where there is always some slack i have not ruled out it may be me! But having tried to monitor the issue I have my doubts, but as stated I'm having trouble sorting out what exactly is the problem as it takes you by surprise when it happens, and then the moment has gone!

With the engine being at such low speed, I wonder if there is an anti stall bit of the map? ECU see the low engine speed, in gear and cluch out condition, thinks it may stall and supplies a bit more torque?

If you can replicate it at will. Try a small amount of clutch slip.

If only we had an Engineer who knew about ECU mapping. :)

I bought a 63 plate LC a couple of weeks ago. Twice on the way home, I closed the throttle coming to a stop in traffic, and the revs momentarily increased. I mentioned it to the dealer, and they had it in and checked it over. As suggested, it is some sort of anti stall "mapping" that kicks in when the revs fall below 2000 rpm. Now I know, I'll be ready for it.
The throttle does seem super sensitive, so the slightest movement increases the revs. Very different from the previous generation GS's.

Comparing My LC GSA and triple black GSA the throttle response is vast . The LC is really quick off the mark especially in dynamic , had a few surges but nought that has caused concern , idle is higher than the TC as well . I find the occasional surge on staring in the morning but nothing like that when its warmed up . I must say I enjoy having both bikes :D

Sticky throttle

Had it at dealer for first service, told them the issues, no faults found no clues to the problem, have to see if it happens again.

Well I'm glad I am not the only one. Not mentioned to dealer but will when I get there next. It happens on overrun it seems at about 2k revs. I've not let it run on as there's usually a corner or roundabout involved and I don't fancy dropping it.

I wonder if it's the cruise control re-engaging for some reason as there have been issues with that. Mines has happened both times after, not soon after though, cruise has been used.

Mine does it, and I've never used cruise control

First time it appeared to happen I had just used cruise, so I thought the same as you talaria, but it had happened many times since when no cruise has been used?

If you can replicate it, let me know how. I want to try for myself.

Although you wouldn't train somebody to ride this way you need to try replicating the parameters that are causing the surge but prior to hitting the trigger point de-clutch and see if the engine still surges.

If it is an anti-stall code it seems to be overly enthusiastic triggering at 2,000 revs. What is tick-over on the LC, 1100rpm, 1250rpm?
