The OP has already confirmed the steering lock was on and the bike was fitted with a disc lock, do you doubt this?

Why didn’t he use a big chain and bigger padlock?
I know carrying them is a PITA, but I never stay overnight without using a Thatcham chain and padlock and lock the bike to something solid
In the past - other bikes have been stolen on the same night, whilst mine hasn’t been touched
Must count for something?

In a word, from what can be seen in the video. Yes.

But hey, if they were both fitted; hats off to the thieves….. gone in 48 seconds, with no power tools, not even a hammer, with little noise (beyond a bit of chat and a scraping side stand) and apparently starting an immobilised bike to ride it off in 48 seconds, without the key. A likely personal best.

There was no disc lock and neither was the steering lock on unless they had already paid a visit and been disturbed, the other bike looked a bit like a R9T maybe thats what was heard.

That is the only possible explanation, as there certainly seems to be zero security in the video.

Is there an earlier Ring video available and / or a version showing the thieves first arrival? The one in the thread, starts when they are ‘on site’ as it were and, seemingly checking the bike over.

Hopefully, the OP has a picture of the broken disc lock (assuming it was in pieces) or can reveal the make…. As it doesn’t appear too good at its job.

Which is no surprise. Most of the shit drivers have a dash-cam and will only capture their own shit driving!

When you do go to submit a video of a driving incident, it details the Camera Cars driving will also be under scrutiny too - incase you have caused, or are part of the incident (eg deliberately driven slowly, or have been tailgating prior to being brake checked)

I needed to provide a picture of the split chain link to my insurers after mine was cut through with an angle grinder - along with an image of the ground anchor.

No idea of the outcome if I couldn't have provided what was requested.

Hind sight is a wonderful thing, bolt n horse etc. However, 2 mins to fit a disc lock or 2 and this thread wouldn’t have happened.

You would hope so but this one broke by hitting it a few times with a rock. Decided to go for an Abus sold secure when I needed one this year, and think more about placing it in an area hard to get a swipe at (chain on front too). Had a bike stolen nearly 40 years ago so not a new thing, but 14 year olds in lids waving bricks seems a newer thing.

That attack, the filming of which does not start with the yobs’ arrival, took nearly a minute and a half to compete.

The thieves then pushed the bike away, unstarted.

The OP’s probably more sophisticated bike had a disc lock, a steering lock and was started to be gone in 48 seconds. Hats off again.

The video does though reconfirm that the yobs are brazen and all but fearless.

Call me foolish and maybe even optimistic but I would have gone out and tried to stop this. This was at a Morrisons store in Guiseley on the outskirts of Leeds. There must have been security staff present plus many customers and yet they still succeeded in taking the bike. What a joke

I think somebody did try to stop them because they went stage right briefly, suggesting the Samaritan backed off. No point in getting stabbed for someone else’s bike.

What we need are sufficient plod available to deal with this kind of shitshow. that means tax rises, so nobody cares until it’s their bike.

Yeah me too would have got the fire extinguisher if to hand. I confronted a male shoplifter in m&s leeds near the station a few weeks ago, 4 staff trying to stop them and they pushed their way into the store looking to steal alcohol, i squared up and shouted ‘get out now’, prompt u turn and off they went. staff are frightened to confront for fear of losing their jobs. The likes of these scroates though, would they get a knife out, born stupid and no shits given. Need a damn good hiding.

Have them check the video again from earlier that evening , they probably did a recce cut off the lock and broke the steering lock and then buggered off to watch and see if it had a silent alarm that informed owner of the bike being interfered with.

Once they were sure and all the prep work done come back and remove the bike in seconds

That wouldn’t be advisable unless you wanted to get locked up for a very long time.
