Stolen clocks - a possible solution

Stop telling Mark that looks good, or he'll put his prices up.:rob

Mark, that looks shite, I'll give you £10 for one, powdercoated black.:D

Noooooooooooooo, I`d give you a tenner to have one, after working all night to make it mate.................

(the above statement could be considered as bollocks :D)

+1 for my 2013 GSA when they're available please. I'll even pop over & let you fit it for me. And while you're at it can you please come up with something to stop people robbing my Nav V which I ALWAYS forget about when I walk away from the bike?

Thanx in advance.

ya Nav V should have a lock on it shouldn`t it?

I don't think you can get Mummies in stainless steel :)

Still, the next best thing might be a bit of elastic through your anorak sleeves, tied to your GPS :D

mmmmmmmmmm some R&D needed mefinks

Guys - the internal dimension between the two fixing points is different between the base model and the TE. Its the `prep for satnav` - the brackets decrease this dimension. Consequently one made to the base model won`t fit the TE model very well (can`t say Im too happy about the idea of forcing the brackets to fit and then not all that well) so I think a design which allows some adjustment between the internal dimensions on the two locating flats is needed..........

I already have a design in mind which will allow for some `user pre-positioning` to suit either model.

I`ll work on it over the BH weekend (when I`m not out on the bike - selfish eh :D)

Subtle changes

Thanks for the posted suggestions and the PM`s fella`s. I`ve incorporated the suggestions and also made a change to allow the `user presetting` of the internal dimension of the brackets to allow for a standard or TE bike differences.

I did this by simply putting some bending slots in the bracket to allow for a little `tweaking` - cunning as a fox, me :D its my guess that even with the slots in the strength of the bracket will still be enough to stop many thieves whilst still being adjusted for fitting in the first instance.

And yes - I would supply some adhesive neoprene strips to `cushion` the frame against the clocks - good idea that one. I hope to do a little more testing this weekend then I will put it on the site for anyone who wants one - price, no idea at this time!

Nice idea, but where you've cut the holes at the end to allow the bend for the bracket, that looks like three fairly weak points. Strong enough to do the job and deter the clock theft, but it is that strong enough to stand up to the vibrations the bike will generate or have you just got three good sites for stress fractures there?

I only mention it as I have Rugged Roads light guards made in a similar way and I've got through three generations (kindly supplied FOC) before getting to a version that stands up to the bike.

Very good point pal and thanks for making it - I`ve used the technique before and so far (touch wood) that on 2mm thick stainless with the dimensions indicated I am yet to get a stress fracture - naturally this doesn`t mean I ain`t gonna get one so your thoughts are very helpful - I could remove the bending slots altogether and just rely on the `spring` of the material to allow for the slight dimensional differences.................

With that said the brace will be cushioned on the clocks with taps of neoprene which may dissipate the shocks somewhat and also protect the plastic surface of the clocks.

Good thought nonetheless :thumb2

Sorry I didn't realise it was stainless, that might be enough to make sure it lasts a bit longer. The light guards are aluminium and as such softer and maybe more prone to vibration

Yes pls I will have one.

Having had my clocka stolen from my 2011 twin cam, sadly this is a necessity.

FYI clocks are easier to steal on the WC than the Hexhead. There is only one circlip holding the WC clocks compared to 3 on hexhead making theft easier.

Nice work Mark. Bloody good idea & I like the fit. Looks robust enough. I'd be up for one of the final versions . Can they be powder coated?

Fanks pal - I`m going to get a `sellable` version nailed as soon as I can (mebbe today if not over the bank holiday weekend) and yes I can do them in powder coated black but that will cost an extra fiver which is the price I have to pay to get them done.

And IMHO I do think its robust enough without being waaay over the top - its a balance and I think I`m thereabouts there.

Also, I found out yesterday how much a replacement set of cloakcs are from bmw - I was quoted £630

No wonder they are getting nicked

Can someone explain where the market is for all these nicked clocks or is there some weirdo hoarder out there :nenau

Dunno fella - there was a previous thread where there were a few horror stories regarding clocks but yes for some reason there is a market for nicked clocks. IMHO it doesn`t help with them being sooo easily pinched as sometimes the lowlife thieving scum do take stuff simply because they can.
