If you look closer the top yoke has melted .. only a small piece of it remains attached to the fork leg ..

That's what I'd concluded, the heat must have been quite intense to have done that. Very very sad.

Phoned my insurance see how much its going to cost me for new policy on another 1150 gs even though i had only had 2 months use on old one which they cancel and keep all 10months remaining
£530 thats assuming it has a tracker etc so a big jump from my previous £165

Its NOT only a motorbike, so far from a financial point of view the OP could be out of pocket by over a grand (£850 insurance excess and £365 extra to insure a new bike.)

That doesn't include the cost of a ruined holiday, the expense of getting different transport home, the possible loss of a "no-claims" bonus.

Okay, its not worth a member of the public getting a kicking or worse, but the attitude that "it's only a motorbike" plays right into the hands of the police (not a priority), the courts (they didn't hurt anyone and there is no victim) and thieves (we'll only get a slapped wrist).

So having now a innocent injured or stabbed person and a stolen motorcycle is the future is it ?

As I say it's a just a motorcycle , something you can replace but you can't replace a life

Do you really think all these kids are hard cases ? I bet if you approached them with a snarl and a weapon of some description, they would be off like a shot. Not sure I'd challenge a guy who's brazen enough to steal a bike. These guys have likely taken a few beatings on their path to where they are now, so they can probably take a dig and give one back, maybe more. Some Tossers may well be able for that, but not everyone is.

That said, with The System being so weak and ineffective at tackling the issue, and with the perps all but guaranteed to walk free every time to repeat, what can be done to thwart them?

Even more fucked-up is that if bikermates did mete out some real-life justice, they'd almost certainly be the ones caught and punished, and possibly court-ordered to pay compensation to the bastards who stole the bike...

received a recorded mail this afternoon makes you laugh ! pc plod does nothing yet i could be getting the chief pc chasing me by way of "civil proceedings" to cover the removal and storage charges if i dont go up there to pick it up ! what a good little earner this lot are on !
cant upload the letter for some reason but basically it says i have to pay £150 for the removal and £20 per day storage and dated from 5th sept. ! so if i want it back its upto £250 ish now plus about £80 in petrol money to go up there in car and trailer.

It's unbelievable isn't it . At least 2 of those people clearly knew that those lads were up to no good and did nothing. They could've at least asked what they were up to , or made a note of the reg or takn some pictures of the perps and their vehicle before calling the police . People just don't give a shit about anybody else anymore. If it's going to take a second or more out of their busy lives they don't want to know .
