My otherwise fault free 5 month old 1200GS has recently developed a little niggle.

Under decent acceleration (say 4,000 rpm in second gear) sometimes, but not always, the engine misses, sort of feels like it hits a temporary red line limiter before picking up again.

Same thing happens in third too.

Very smooth use off the throttle alleviates to some extent, but cracking the throttle open doesn't.

Now not a big issue to live with as on the daily commute through that there london 4,000 rpm never happens.

I'm quite temped to try to live with in to the next service (which will be at 6,000 and bike still under warranty) but thought it worth throwing open for comment.

Any thoughts

(please, spare me the ususal boring "my 1150 has been to jupiter and back on unfiltered diesel and never even lost a wheel spoke so you should get rid of the 12 and get one of those instead type boring answers)

Try the "Reset"!
When test procedure at startup is done, do two slow "full trottle". After that start the engine. This initates some sort of recalibration or reset.

best wishes

Sounds like a dodgy connection / coil on the secondary sparkplug. Same thing happended to me - it only happens when giving it a handfull, which is when the secondary plug kicks in I guess.

thanks for the tips.....the bike has been sat outside in the recent foul weather so I'll go and spray WD40 in the likely places and see what happens!

Dropped off this morning to have fault investigated and 6,000 mile service at same time.

Nice chaps at Battersea tell me it's a coil pack and they havn't got one in :( however they will have in the morning and it's a quick job so bike will be ready at 9am tomorrow morning :)

I do like it when garages choose to keep the customer informed not only of the problem, but also the solution and timeframes.

Hopefully a well done in advance

All scratching heads to explain scorched throttle cable (i don't go *that* fast)

Where does you all get these BMW reset codes from, love to know because I would love to know.
Many thanks
Mark

Got bike back serviced & fixed & tidied up & very happy customerthankyew.

Of note from the 6,000 mile service

Bike was fitted with the wrong spark plugs at the factory.

I suspect, therefore, that I am not unique in this and that a few other people out there may be able to attribute rough running 12's to BMW fitted the wrong plugs.
