Sump plug

From my experience the white tape or paste residue on drain plug threads is normal from the factory. I just gave them a quick wipe (most of it remained) and reused the o-rings many times. The stuff was on the drain plugs of every Harley I had.

.. and if you don't have any, let me know. I'm hoping to drop into the Northern Sole cafe on Saturday, I could leave a sachet there for you.

Just don't mix it up with the ketchup.

Sorted now but thanks anyway

Usually serviced at dealers Clifton so presume they did it or it's never been cleaned.
Cleaned up and back in and torqued up so hopefully all good.

Probably never changed the oil.

The compression ring (theoretically) needs annealing or throwing away, every time you remove the plug whereas the o-ring should be good for multiple uses, and in principle does not depend on you torquing the bolt up to achieve compression, only sufficient to prevent loosening.

IMO, it’s a better way of doing the job.

Since removing the ptf tape and putting on new o-ring and torquing up I've had no leaks.

Send it to the workshop in poppleton York. They know how to tighten stuff up. :D
