There must be a way of getting 'hardened' drive train components, surely?
In the Landrover world, you can get pretty much the whole drive train in heavy duty versions, from half shafts to UJs.......BMW has had highly tuned racing bikes forever, with similar outputs to what you'd expect to get from a blown system.......maybe it's possible to source the parts that they use in those racing models?![]()
Just about anything is possible if you throw enough money at the problem. Race teams have (generally) astronomical budgets and the costs of the special bits of HPN dakar boxers were eye watering. Race bikes also have pretty specialised requirements - longevity and durability are often sacrificed for weight and user friendliness for power and strength. You could make a nice strong driveshaft (probably without a cush drive) but this would stress the FD and gearbox so you'd have get uprated gearbox and FD internals made but this would stress the clutch so you'd need a special clutch. And then what about the crank and the conrods, and, and...
Often it just isn't worth it for a road bike on a budget. A race bike is a different proposition - who cares if it needs a complete rebuild after every meeting - just chuck some more money at it...
