Surge on deceleration

I have noticed that I have a small surge often when I decelerate on my 2010 1200gs.

It is no great issue as I am now used to it and will chalk it down as engine character. However I was wondering if anyone could tell me............. Is this anything to do with the exhaust valve flappy dubery??

It feels so uniform and regular that it has got me wondering if that is what causes it as it does feel like the engine note changes slightly at the same time.

I don't see it as a problem just curious if any of the more clued up owners could confirm/deny my thoughts.

Your bike has total fuel shut off when on a fully closed throttle but when the revs drop to near idle speed the injectors start fuelling again and feels like a small surge just as you thought you were slowing down.

Hi Kenny - I have this too. Only the accelaration caused by the injected fuel happens at around 3000rpm and then another one at around 1800rpm. Those are not near idle speed. Would you have an idea as to why at these rpms? Thanks Kenny!

My 08 (Mk2) does not do the 3000 rpm surge and I never deliberately allow it to pull below 2000 so not noticed the 1800 rpm surge. TBH 2000 rpm is slow enough for such a big twin cylinder engine.

As the OP said, it's not a problem, although it can be a bit bothersome when on longer descends in the Alps. Before the one I have now (2012 DOHC) I've had a couple other 1200GS and none of them did this.
