I have seen couple of threads on doing tappets and [later] thottle body balancing, there is one thread with a link where its advised to actually balance the tappets so they are all running in sync as opposed to doing the tappets and end float as normal, is the former way a bit anal [ ie the way my mate does everything] and is it a matter of ,"well they will be out of sync after 500 miles anyway? ironically bike seems to be running shit since i TREATED HER! to new oil , air and oil filter, drive and gearbox oil , and plugs, [havent had tank off so cable routinf fuel lines wont be at fault, thanks in advance Big Jessie.:blagblah

AFAIK...

...Keeping your valve clearances and throttle balance in good spec' is key to a smoother, frisky and progressive engine response. :thumb

What are you talking about ??

Done it ! just connect your electric guitar tuner to the diagnostic socket :pullface only a little bit of canbus fluid was spilt whilst doing this, I think I have got away with it :thumb2

Why would you have to put your tappets in the sink to adjust them? Seems a bit excessive to me. Wouldn't you have to take the heads off first?

Oh, I see, you said "synch". Hang on, no I don't.

Beyond me, I'm afraid.

I just uses two feeler gauges.

not impressed

As it says above , not to happy with people making out that i am numb, the piece i am reffering to was started by Steptoe i believe and later on in the thread a moderator called Fanum puts a link titled Here it is #32 and is a PDF file which makes informative and funny reading as fanum says , it is regarding setting all 4 tappets on each cylinder to have them running IN SYNC!!!!!! I was told the other sites were for the stiff shirts, perhaps someone told me porkies? anyway come up with a good egg scouse you lot ,or have a big spoon and eat some humble pie ps i have stripped a honda 6 cyl in the past and i cant be that thick cos i also rebuilt it.pps and it ran. Big blubbing Jessie:stopbeing

Yeh, but did it work afterwards? what you posted before was just gibberish. We all try to help, but talking rubbish you must expect a bit / lot of pisstaking. Most on here are very experianced mechanics and between us can sort out
most probs, especially Mr S. hence "funnies" are treated as such!.

Suggest you start taking your own advice as at the bottom of your post.

No worries, I do use pairs of feeler gauges to set my tappets and it is important that they are set the same, careful attention to this and throttle balance can make a major difference to how well these bike run :thumb2

agree about throttle balance, but find it very hard to believe a couple of hundredths of a mm variance on the valve clearance makes a "major difference". or even a minor one really.

as these two adjustments are usually done at the same time, along with an oil change, it's always going to feel better.

however, i do it with two gauges myself anyway :aidan
