Strict speed limits in Scandinavia, so the X-Country will be fine

FWIW. And slightly OT.

Going up there in 3 days, regardless of the selected route, is not much of vacation pace. If you go through Sweden it is stil 700 km a day. A 3 day ride means keeping 120km/h on the clock for 8 hrs. driving a day. That's quite a pace for a 650.
If you go domestic, it means 800km a day, and you may expect to progress 60 km/h, i.e 13 hrs of riding + stops.


May I humbly suggest that you spend at least one more day going up there….

Thank you for the advice. We were planning on staying in Norway and just going up the E6. We will probably just ride at a steady pace for 4 days and if we get to Nordkapp all well and good, if not we'll turn south and head down by the coast as much as possible. Nordkapp is on the wish list but not at the expense of missing out on other stuff.
If you've got any other tips or suggestions please let me know - this is our first time in Scandinavia.

E6 is a terrible choice until you have passed Trondheim, but perhaps we should continue this debate in the Travel/Scandinavia section.

I just read on Honestjohn FAQ's about a guy who claimed the cost of a hire car etc in France when his Citroen broke down in France while on hols, he couldn't continue the holiday without a car, was a court job iirc. Might be worth a look but would imagine it will be a long protracted case trying to get money out of them.

Bmw warranty says they will assist with travel and accoms if you break down on hols. Op hadn’t left so they are not obliged to cover him. The cover is for the situation you are in at the point of break down.

To be honest I think the owner is wasting his time asking for help from BMW. All they are obliged to do is repair the bike. I don't think the fact that someone's main holiday could have been ruined (not to mention the £600 spent so far) due to one of their motorbikes failing after only 4000 miles even crosses their mind.

Think it's going to be a bit of an eye opener money wise - especially compared to the Balkans which is where we've been for the last 2 trips.

Last time I returned from Norway on the bike I was stopped at Customs and asked if I had anything to declare. ‘Yes’ said I. This is probably the first and only time I have taken more alcohol out of the country than I have brought back! Fortunately, he knew exactly what I meant!
