Suspension setup - R1200GS

My 2010 is a bit harsh going over bumps in the road, some bits where the surface has been repaired are like going over a washboard. Funny enough I have mine set to big mountains and soft but playing about the other day I think normal and hard seem to give a softer ride than soft!

Is there any reason why you're using Off Road Settings On Road?
I usually have mine set on Single Helmet or Single Helmet with Luggage for Preload and either Comfort or Normal on Rebound Damping, depending on Road Surface...

Well only really because I am quite big and heavy 6’5” 22st and I read somewhere big mountains was a good setting for older suspension. I might try some of the other settings but I assumed having the minimum preload would be best for me which is what the big mountains does.

I'm not that far behind you.
Mine was fine on the Settings I described earlier until I put my Wife on the back, then it dropped the Rear End a bit too much for my liking (Worn Shock, not heavy Wife I hasten to add!), so I had Luke Rebuild it and also Upgrade the Spring.
£225 all-in and it's like a new Bike.

if you are 22 stone you need a new spring

the rear stock spring is around 140nm designed for 12 stone (75kg)
I run a soft set up with a 175mn spring for 18 stone with kit on (115kg)
I guess you need 205nm and a shock that can control that amount of spring - and that's not one made by BMW (for 140kg load)

Crikey so anyone over 12st is really too fat to be riding a GS with the stock shock, 12 stone isn't that heavy at all!

no - the world is stuck in some 1950s oddity where ave wt is mostly deemed to be 75kg (check most lifts and airlines) then you eat your breakfast whilst going to school and you're 100kg by the time you can afford a GS, then add 10kg of kit so 75kg is joke the manu should have recognised at least 25 years ago,
