Just replaced the swingarm on 1150ADV all went well until I noticed that the rear swingarm gaiter hadn't seated around the gearbox flange  very tight to get hand in. anyone got any tips i dont want to have to dismantle everything just get this gaiter seated, manged to get it on at the top but the lower part/right side which is hidden are proving difficult. Help!!!!!......cheers in anticipation of some mystical :bow thoughts.

To be honest, I'm not sure how you'd get it on without the swingarm pivot pinions out. When I removed the swingarm on my 1100, I greased up the gaiter and popped it on by pushing the swingarm towards the G/B as the manual advises.

I guess you could try prodding it into place with a thin plastic 'tool' of some sort, although it wouldn't be easy. If you remove the shock you can raise the swingarm and give yourself a bit more room at the bottom.

Hopefully someone else will know a special technique that you can use....

I had the same thing with a new gaiter after recent rebuild on my R11. I persevered and stuck bike on the side stand which gave more room. You may even have a helper to sit on the bike! It worked after a little effort. Just give it time and work it into the ridge top to bottom. Good luck!:thumb2

Cheers

Thanks lads....side stand it was, your right loads more room, my fingers are sore and hands are bruised but with the extra room and a long screwdriver (I didn't put a hole in it) and much cajoling it eventually slide on I had remembered to grease it when I put it together so I think that helped. Just been out for a test ride and its spot on, Thanks again for the advice. :D:D:D:D
