Hi Guys,

I like to have my ipod playing me tunes when I ride, great when I'm on my own, pain in the neck when I'm riding in a group. Everytime we stop, at lights, or a quick chat I have to unplug the helmet cable.

On my old 1150 I had the autocom wire through the rear lights, so I just switched the lights off, instant silence.

Unfortunately it doesn't work so well on my 1200, no light switch.

I know I could just strip the cable to the ipod and fit a switch but before I started using my, less that impressive, electrical skills, just wondered if anyone had come up with a nice, neat solution to this one. Idealy an autocom helmet lead with an off switch would be ideal.

Anyway hope someone can lend me a hand with this one.

Thanks in advance:thumb

I keep my iPod nano in my map pocket on the top of my tank-bag (or clipped to the outside of my riding suit if no tank-bag)... I just reach over and press pause..

try a

Belkin Sportcommand- It's bluetooth and fits on to th bottom of your ipod. You can mount the control using velcro inside your hand protector. Makes it easy to control volume and skip tracks.

I use an Griffin airclick velcroed to the inside of the hand guard.
Pause and volume finger stretch away

i put a double pole switch in line with the audio output on the ipod, which switches either to full volume , (whatever the ipod is set to) then i can flick the switch and put the output thru 2 resistors which govern down the input to the autocom, you can try different resistors in order to get the amount of volume cut you want, so its either full on or restricted,i normally have it loud for the motorway, and quieter for around town, at the flick of a switch.i tried to get a griffin air click, but i couldnt find one for my 2nd gen ipod nano 8gb.regards PAul

Remote on/off

All the above are very good ideas, but if you aint got an Ipod, but some other
mp3 player ?

Paul

the main reason why I got an Ipod was the availability of extras like wireless remotes. I deeply didn't want to buy something as trendy as an Ipod - although I am pleased with it - except iTunes - which I think sucs

I have found the ipod remote to fiddly, but as i listen to my GPS & ipod via my Autocom i wondered about just putting a switch in on the powered wire for the Autocom so i can just flick it on/off when i need to :nenau.

I have done a dry run in the garage but was unsure what guage wire i should use to extend the Autocom wire via a switch. Anyone know what would be suitable?

cable size

HI Stu, cheques in the post by the way,i use 8 core alarm cable for a lot of jobs , you must use the flexible kind and not the eureka variety solid stuff, it doesnt flex enough, but the flexi alarm wire is good, you can always double up the cores, thats what i used to interupt the signal from the ipod into the autocom, prob best if you are to do this, to use shielded cable though.
I used this to power up my sat nav, 2 cores for the earth, 2 cores for the live and the other cores for the audio into the autocom.

Excellent idea Kent, Thanks for all the feedback guys, Like the idea of being able to cortol the ipod remotely but just a bit too much of a scutter for me. Plus the fact I can't find a blue tooth control for my iTouch

Where did you mount the double pole switch?

Cheers

there's this one.

might buy one myself. don't use autocom, so i'm not sure how it would work with that.

um, hang on. iPod Touch is not bluetooth anyway, that gadget just bluetooths to a phone. maybe that's what you want?? i've confused myself now  :eek :D

Thanks for all the advice guys,

Initially thought I'd be quite happy with just being able to switch it off and on, You lot got me thinking.

So a quick ebay purchase (£29.95 plus £5.99 delivery from the US)

I now have full control, though not of the camera obviously :augie
