tell me about your 1190

Davy I'm seriously considering the new Wings Seat Cooler as I've noticed my thighs getting a tad warm lately and with my forthcoming UK/Euro trip said:
I have been following a thread over on Advrider waiting for feedback on these and their effectiveness but nothing so far so will be interested in your thoughts and if they work. Over here I am definitely feeling the heat and it can only get hotter so am keen to do something but they are a lot of dosh.

The other question Davy is how long did Holan take to deliver your panniers I am approaching 4weeks and they haven't replied to my last two e-mails should I be worried ?

after reading your posts, i emailed holan and got a reply the same day, but then they don't have my money yet.

The delivery depands on the ordered parts, we have many shipments to prepare at the moment, I guess we need min 1 weeks to send the parts

best regards and have a nice day,
Aleksandra

i have also just ordered the Wings can :)

My Nomada boxes took around three weeks to arrive, but I did order them just before xmas, so there was a delay in shipping. They get sent by tracked post and I was kept informed so was happy enough. They did say at the time that they get terribly busy come the start of the 'season' when I expressed that I may wait until later in the year, hence my order date.

Thanks guys I will relax a little more now, we are going to the French Touratech event in Orange next weekend but I can cope with a backpack for a few days. :D

My 2p as to the warming of one thighs........ i was out yesterday and it does warm the thighs but found if i moved my legs only by a inch or two the heat dissipated very quickly.
it was my first day out on the bike yesterday having only picked the beast up on friday yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Has anyone ran any decent distance with luggage ?
Found mine a bit wobbly at speed with a big daft givi box on

Just come back from France with Givi boxes on, at one point accelerating hard through the gears the front wheel went light, the bars began to slap and the whole bike got a bit of a weave on, looking down the speedo said 106 (obviously kph) the only thing in the boxes was my airflow gear and a few tools so it's not a weight thing, more to do with aerodynamics I reckon. The photo is the morning we set off.

Yeah thats about the same speed I started to see it at , off to spain in a few weeks so will find out then with 8 days camping stuff to carry.
What tank milage were you seeing on your run ?
thx

M'off as well near the end of June. I'll have (alu) panniers and top box fitted, but no camping shite. My 12GS was always pretty steady at speed and I only felt a lack of feedback through the steering when loaded, so it'll be interesting to feel how the 1190 compares.

postman came today :)

I had exactly the same item delivered today at about 1pm. It's fitted now and looks great. As others have said, the weight difference is amazing.
Have not had the chance to take it on the road yet, but it sounds wonderful in my garage with the larger baffle in.

i just need the bike now.

should pick it up tomorrow, but carole nash are doing their very best to fuck up the simple change of bikes + renewal, so i'm not putting money on it

Depending on how you ride, I reckon you should see between 230-240 miles safely on a tank, as a rule when the gauge shows the last bar in the display there's approximately 5.5 litres left in the tank, I try to find a filling station at this point and can just get over 17 litres in. Riding reasonably hard you should still see 50mpg or 11.3 miles per litre.

That's good to hear. I was anticipating high thirties.

What about tyre wear, and are they expensive being as how there is only one tyre type (trail attack Zs) rated for the bike AFAICT?

Cheers for that , I am getting about 10 mile to the litre , not on a run and the infectious noise of the bike doesn't help:P
As for tyres , they aint bad , done 2k miles on mine and still plenty of tread left on them ( changed for PR4's for the pyranees)
The conti writing has just about going on mine , which is also the bikes fault , knowing you can put the power on banked over has also become an infectious disease :)

so here it is:

what i like:

the fabulous smooth power. nicer than the demo bike.

the transmission.

the light weight.

the effortless handling.

the noise, even with the standard can. wings will be on soon :)

the touring screen is better than the stock item, and looks great in dark tint.

the orangeness.

what i don't like:

the sidestand.

the indicator switch. very nearly as bad as the BMW LC for position.

the way the modes default to "street" if i turn the bike off.

45mpg while running in

my arse hurts.

it's fair to say that i was very cagey about trading in my GSA TC for this bike, and was sad to see it wheeled away. 5 miles on the KTM and i'd forgotten all about it though :D
