Jesse luggage... these make the bike 32 inches wide at the rear...
These are the 8" panniers but you can also get the 10" ones..
If i go and pick them up i can try them before i decide which width to get;)

Cookie, have you fitted the KTM boxes with the Wings shorty yet? I'm thinking also I don't want the frames on the bike when I'm not using the panniers and I can get good deal on the KTM boxes at my local dealer.

No, I don't have the boxes yet, and won't have them for a couple of months.

I think there is a small risk that the short pipe will give problems with the panniers, but if it does, I'll either knock up an extension for the exhaust outlet or simply refit the original silencer.

That's the plan anyway.

Thanks - where are you going to see them?

edit: my calculation program is giving me US gallons. in real money it's 48.18mpg.

phew.

Davy, can you tell me if your Wings exhaust is CE marked (UK road legal, is what I'm really asking)

When I asked Wings chap that question a few months ago via email, he confirmed his exhaust cans were not CE marked at that time. You'd be unlucky to get clobbered for it in UK, not sure about continental trips though these days...

French plod seem pretty hot on stopping foreign bikes at the moment, and someone got stopped in Austria for using HID's. Only a problem if you're stopped, or have an accident, I suppose. Thanks for the response, though, nice as the Wings look I think I'll go with Akra or remus with CE marks.

Personally I like the sound of the Akra a lot , Ive used it all through winter and still looks mint , would definately recommend....

Exhaust silencers are not required to be CE marked by law in the UK. I took my old 990 in for MOT a couple of years ago with Mivv silencers. They were marked but the stamp wasn't visible without removing panels so I took along a certificate that came with them as proof of CE approval. The tester wasn't interested in the certificate and said " we are only required to check that, in our opinion, they are not too loud". His next comment was " I bet that sound good without the baffles in !

Did a recce of green lanes in the Peak District today, it's a shame a lot have been repaired and re-graded, Preistcliffe ditch used to be extremely rutted and very muddy, one of my favourite lanes, now even the 1190 can just ride up in street mode.

That's interesting! Davy F on here says he's going to re-fit the OEM silencer for travelling in Europe - Davy, is that because you might get nicked in Europe, or for other reasons. I must say that Wings looks nice, and is half the price of the Akra. The Akra, though, won't need re-packing and still sound good. And, passing an MOT and being legal may not be the same thing.

:eek:Pipes and luggage, that's the question. I went to the Adventure Bike Shop over in Sudbury yesterday. They've got a various hard cases in stock. I want something that's not going to leave a lot of scaffolding on the bike when I take it off, and that isn't wider the the handlebars. The bars are 32", say 34" taking into account the hand guards. The only cases that seem to get within that are the Jesse Odyssey 8", 32" wide, and you can pull them in another inch and a half or so if you have a slimmer exhaust. KTM touring is 36" wide, Touratech/KTM are over 40"

Two reasons I'm changing back to the oe pipe for my trip abroad (and has nothing to do with getting nicked).
1: the oe pipe fills the gap under the right side pannier better and
2: let the oe pipe take all the crap while I'm away and keep my Wings all nice and shiney.

Simples.

I think you'll find that either being CE marked or stamped BSAU 193 is very much a legal requirement in the UK. It's not a requirement for the MOT test but it is necessary in terms of Construction and Use Regulations and the Motor Cycle Silencer Regulations 1995. http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200304/ldlwa/40525wa1.pdf

Someone asked me how big/small the air intake gap was. It's four fingers up to the second knuckle big. :D
