tell me about your 1190

Cookie, I feel your pain, I'm now at 30,000miles with my GSA 12, bought new Sept 11, I have had loads of fun with it, but there's always a niggle in the back of mind about its reliablity, and should I stop paying for the extended warranty i took out after two years?

I had within the first 2500miles a new fuel pump, left me stranded on the hard shoulder, heated grips, complete exhaust, since then I've had under warranty, the magnesium head covers final drive and both wheels replaced due to corrosion.

This isn't what bothers me, its the service intervals of mine, 6000 miles compared to a KTM which is I think about 8500miles?, that's a big difference to me as I'm now doing 15,000+ a year .

It would be interesting to know what the cost of servicing is guys? and how you've found the after care from buying new in the Uk?

Good luck with whaat ever you buy, its normally the best thing to own until you sell and then the everyone tells the truth! hahah :blagblah:blast

With reference to the aftercare , Ive had nothing but good experiences over the past few months with KTM UK , had a few small issues with mine , or at least the communication , I grumbled and they gave me lots of things that i am more than happy with , including free MSC update and the extension of the warratny to 3 years is great.
The oil filter won't last 8500 miles though in my opinion , especially if you add the fancy orange filter cap , it has a design flaw
still love the bike , not really that took on the PR4's Ive fitted to it , seemed great at first , but i'm going back to contis I think.
I have also found the touring screen with puig top screen to work perfectly for buffeting also.

Davy, sorry but I cant't find the original comments on the heat deflecting panels you bought but how are you finding them? Have they made a worthwhile improvement?

Andres

Worthwhile ? Hell yeah !!! The hottest it's been reading was 35.5 degrees. The heat deflectors made a massive difference as I knew how hot I was getting back in sunny Norn Iron, so I dread to think how well toasted I'd have been in Italy. There is still an immense amount of heat that gets generated from the bike, but without doubt, the Wings Seat Coolers work a treat.

If Amanda gets on with it I have 'permission' to replace the GS with one so PLEASE can everybody send lots of positive 'go Amanda, go' vibes to north Wales on late Friday afternoon, thank you :beerjug:

Andres

I'll do my best as I will actually BE in North Wales tomorrow, heading to Holyhead for the Dublin ferry. :aidan

Bob,
Are you using the KTM touring screen with a Puig deflector or is it a Puig screen & Puig deflector?
Also, is it a clamp on or screw fixed deflector?

I was wondering whether to try one of these on the ktm touring screen, but wasn't sure if the clamps would work with the flip up at the top of the ktm screen.

My wife claims the 1190R (with ergo seats) is more comfortable than the BMW1200RT I had before. We're off to Spain in a couple of weeks so that should be a really good test for her, btw she's 5'2''.

KTM touring screen and puig clamp on screen , only small one.
I'm 6 foot tall and it works really well

So, I didn't bin it with Mrs Outtomunch on the back and only lofted the front wheel once.

"It's more fun than the GS," was her closing quote.

Fingers crossed she's been convinced so that Mr Outtomunch can go shopping!

Fantastic :beerjug:

All hail the Milkmaid, for I am truly great.

Not very conceited, but great all the same.

Looking fwd to seeing the new addition Andres!

3999.2 miles in 17 days. Zero problems, chain only needs at tweek now I'm home. Best mpg was 54.5, worst was 48. Handled everything Mother Nature threw at it between a high of 35.5 degree heat to 300+ miles in continuous rain. The Continental tyres have been fantastic and I'll stick with those for future changes. She easily cruised at 95 mph and maybe the (standard) screen could have been a tad better, but it isn't a dedicated touring behemoth after all. The ride modes and suspension modes really made a difference with the different riding conditions and instilled so much confidence in me, especially in some of the horrendous weather I had to ride through. The Nomada panniers were great, fully waterproof and able to withstand a little 'French kiss' I had with a constructors metal trailer.
Oil consumption, I put in maybe 50cc's just to top it up, no more.
All in all, great bike. :aidan

sounds good.

not sure mine is ever going to see 48mpg again though, now it's run in. last time i looked at the computer it was 44. i must be doing something right :D

in other news, i've ordered the ergo seat. my arse made me do it.

I'm showing a pretty consistent 9.1 miles per litre on the pooter, does that work out to be equivalent of circa 41 mpg? Not exactly great in terms of economy, but spot on for grin factor, which is much more important! :D

tried out the ergo seat today. no sargent, but quite an improvement over the standard item.

one thing though: it didn't come with the heat shield as fitted to my original seat, and it gets friggin' hot. no, it hasn't got the heat element turned on (or even wired). i called in at the dealer about getting one of the retro fitting heat shields and the robbing bastards tried to stitch me for £37, so i left without it. i think i'll find some heatproof material on ebay and knock one up myself
