tell me about your 1190

Giles,

I accept that but to be honest the fuelling on my 1190 is bang on, the throttle response is precise and controllable. In fact 'rain mode' is unnecessary because the throttle control is so good far better than my 990 and all BMW's I've previously owned. What I would say is put some miles on the bike, as they loosen up the bottom end becomes smoother and more useable. ......

Agreed - I initially found 'rain' better for rush hour stop/go city traffic, especially half asleep on the way to work but now I've got a few miles on the bike it's loosening up nicely and no longer bother with it. I can't wait to get the engine fully bedded in :)

Andres

i never bother with Rain Mode now.

i also know the traction control works :D

Yes I hear all that, and even with only 100 miles on the clock, the bike is very smooth.
We'll see.
It's not that 'it needs improving' (as you say it fuels very nicely) it's more a case of what you can still do to a bike from standard.
What we tend to do is sort a bike bit by bit; new can ... save up ... De-cat ... save up .. Hilltop ... so the changes can be quite subtle.
Over night I put my wc back to standard and then rode it to the dealers on the big day. Bloody hell! It was honestly like getting on a different bike. The 'standard' bike was flat, unresponsive, felt sluggish, it just had no crispness about it. It was now 'normal', but of course to any body else it would have been perfectly good and a lovely bike to ride. But it's not until you get on it and ride it back to back with a 'sorted' bike that you realise just how peachy you can make something that is, well, restricted for want of a better word, to meet global tests.
For a bike that is already 'wow that's good', it could be WOW!! That's fecking awesome' !! :)

Thing is Giles the 1190 is far more sorted from scratch than any BMW I've ridden so you may find the 'improvements' are less so than on the BM and the money could well be better spent on petrol to enjoy it as is.... Having said that I put a can on to get rid of the lawnmower exhaust note :)

Aha .... :P

Well now, the farkling continues .....

I've stuck some 3m (what ever its called) clear tape on bits that I've noticed are getting worn by my boots already

It's actually pretty hard to see unless you look for it.

Head light protector, (went for something very simple - not really into the fancy grills and mesh contraptions)

Fitted the Wings exhaust, errr and some rim tape !! .... :)

And then (to keep Mav happy .. ) went for a ride ....

I took a trip to a decent exhaust specialist today. And I've got to say, they came across as completely un-fazed, very professional and knowledgeable (phew - no cowboys). We've had a conversation along the lines of cut out the 'bulb' that is the cat and replace with a standard size pipe, versus cutting a letter box in the bulb, taking out the cat and welding the letter box back up (keeping the 'bulb'). I think we're going to go with the latter - the 'bulb' is pretty small (compare it to something like the GS) and any resonance it just might make :nenau should be kept to a minimum.
Coincidently, one of the guys in the work shop used to be a bike mechanic at my local dealer. He tells me that they will remap it under warranty with an Akrapovič can on, (apparently its akrapovic's own map) and couldn't see why they wouldn't do it with a different can on. So all food for thought there, and some home work to do on dealer maps v hilltop maps and warranty questions etc etc.

Only done 150 miles ! so obviously I'll want the bike properly loosened up before we start hammering it on the dyno .... :D

Rim tape? Why, just why?... ;)
Headlight protector with its Velcro attachments looks a bit poundshop but I'm sure it'll do the job...

Ummmmm, yes, I know what you mean, but it's simple, effective, easy to take off and clean, and doesn't affect the throw of light .... :thumb2

I think you'll find the akra remap at the dealer is for 9** bikes.

Aha .... :P

So, you hopefully got the 450miles required to move the shift light on, this weekend? :D

Gotta say those Wings pipes really suit the bike :thumb2 and I'm busting to get one. I got chatting to a guy at the weekend with one of the rare 'R' RC8s which had the full race Akro set up - flipping 'eck it sounded beautiful. Not stoopid loud just, well, 'right'. Made mine sound like a pile of poo in comparison........

And as for rim tape  Actually, as much as I pains me to say this I'm pleasantly surprised and it actually looks good on the bike :) Still not sure I could bring myself to do it though................... :D

Andres

Rim tape LoL, the wings can looks a luvly i prefer the short over the long. They say the first scratch - mark is always the worse tho !

Luvly jubbly Giles.

A touch of bling ......

A touch of bling ......

Hell of an aftermarket crash bar that one!

Question for those in the know on outfits........having gone to the expense of fitting Ohlins to the bike would it not make sense to do the same for the car?
Surely the sidecar bouncing around will detract from any benefit of the Ohlins fitted to the bike, or is it just bling on forks cause they will be on view.

Not thinking of building one meself - just curious after noticing it on the bike. :nenau

sw motech sat nav bracket ...
Great design and very stable on the move ... :thumb2

That looks very neat, nicer than the KTM one - think I'll get one of those when I get around to sorting a GPS for the bike, ta :)

Andres

There's absolutely no flex or wobble in it - feels very secure. I've wired it straight into ACC2 hidden behind the fag lighter socket .. :thumb2

The farkling continues ..... :D

First off, a trip to a local exhaust specialist! This is was the fuss is all about ...

We looked into a letter box idea, but the cat is actually welded in there so the whole section (about 4") was cut out and replaced;

R&G Rad guard ...

Panniers are all well and good for two up touring, but for just me, I'd rather leave the panniers at home. The kreiga luggage I have is pretty good, but there's limited space under the seat for the kreiga loop tabs. So I've fitted some of there rack loops..

http://www.kriega.com/rackloops/

They're really well made, absolutely solid, and will double up as useful loops for cargo nets, bungees, maybe even Rosys Air hawk ?

The loops turn through 360 degrees and are not fixed.

Out on the road, the decat is instantly noticable. The throttle is just so light and airy, sharp and crisp. You can almost feel the fuel rushing through. Re-map on the cards now to make it a little richer (protect it) and to finish off the fuelling.
