tell me about your 1190

Don't think there's going to be much chance of that... On holiday and can't wait to get back ;)

Has anyone tried the MRA X-Creen with the standard screen? The airflow seemed quite smooth but just a bit noisy with the screen as is.... Now just going to see if I can squeeze a Wings can on without the wife noticing...

Hi All,

Got my 2014 plate 1190 on April Fool's day (!!) and must admit I am well pleased with it so far. Rode it 350 miles in all weathers to get home and couldnt fault the handling or power delivery which is more than can be said for the bloomin screen.

There seems to be a few thoughts on what is the best configuration, and I guess it is just a case fo trial and error to get it right for each individual based on height etc.

Mods so far include a Wings shorty exhaust, front fender entender, factory heated grips and removal of the rear pegs (makes accessing the shock area so much easier).

Anyway, looks like I have a few threads to read over the rest of Easter (when I am not riding the bike)
 
Good lord this bike is fantastic!

I know my GS was a 2005 model, but my new 1190 is MUCH faster, lighter, more nimble, and the gearbox and clutch are sublime by comparison. It's more thrilling and engaging to ride and doesn't feel anywhere near as big as the previous encumbent..

I cannot WAIT to take it to the Alps in June for a good hoon. It's going to be an absolute blast :D :clap :clap

All in all a good choice of bike replacement I feel.

Glad you guys are enjoying the bikes and I'm still getting the hugest of smiles on mine 3,000 miles on :)


I gave mine a full deep clean this weekend. At the start of the winter I coated all the fasteners, spokes etc with a spray on corrosion inhibiting wax. Since then the bike has put on most of it's miles commuting to work and riding around on some very wet, salty roads. All it's had is a hose down every now and again. Getting the wax of was hard work but it has all come off after a lot of elbow grease and rapped knuckles :tears

I'm please to report that the only corrosion was slight rusting on the disc bobbins which has 'Solvol'd' out no problem. There is no other sign that the bike has been ridden through the winter. Whether this is down to the finish of the bike or the wax doing it's job I don't know but I'm very impressed indeed with how well the bike has stood up to winter.

Had a clean up and general fettle today - replaced the 3M tape that (only) about 6 hours of off roading has mullered ..



...and replaced the OE brake pedal with a larger Touratech job ....



 
Is it a 1290 starter motor and was it under warranty ?? :thumb2

It is the 1290 starter motor. I emailed kTm as my dealer wasn't aware that kTm were replacing the starter motor. kTm said they would do it under warranty but wouldn't have a starter motor until May / June. I bought a new starter motor from a dealer in Texas, a thread on advrider had said he had a spare one.

It was fitted under warranty and kTm will give me a voucher to cover the cost of buying the starter. I'm very happy. It starts within a second now, mine laboured to start with the old one and wouldn't start a few times during the past winter.

All UK dealers should do it under warranty, kTm UK will authorise it. It's well worth doing.

...for the lack of money in my bank account...

...after bumping into him and his bike at the weekend, I have subsequently ordered a Wings short can, Wings seat cooler insert thingies and a Unifilter. So far I've just about managed to resist the temptation to buy a headlight protector, pivot pegs and engine remap, but there's still a distinct possibility I'll give in and go all farkley. I might also be on my way to the Kriega website shortly!
 
I'm thinking about getting an 1190R at the end of summer. I've been inspired by this thread and I've seen there are a couple of people who run their bikes through the winter.

Am I right in saying that with the proper treatments they'll survive winter OK, because it's a lot of money to put down if the thing's going to go rusty and furry.

Also, I assume they cope well with the shitty, slippery conditions typical of the great British winter?

Get yourself down to Hockley this Saturday morning (see the East Mids regional section) and you can have a ganders at mine which has done 3,000 miles through our winter, commuting to work etc

Shitty, slippy conditions? Well that's all to do with your right wrist but traction control helps when you want to play silly buggers :)
