TEMPERATURE READING 7 BARS

Well oil be blowed,(mostly out the oil filler orifice) this thread has gone for longer than I thought it would.

What is it with GSers and oil ?

Hit 7 bars for the first time in Glasgow recently. Why hasn't Glasgow got some sort of a bypass/ ringroad, or did I miss it ?

Start any thread and the odds are 20/50 that an oil comment will be slid in there. Probably just to help lubricate the communication process. The impression I get is that the major manufacturers hypoid their own particular brand.Off to the Dorset steam fair shortly, expecting it to spend maybe 15/40 quid.

OK OK THAT'S IT.

There is no benefit in using bike-specific oils in a BMW R engine. Arguably, because of higher API specs, 'car'-oils will offer a benefit over bike oils.

I use fully-synth car oil in mine, largely because of its superior lubrication performance when old or hot or both.

As I have said before, if you guys want to pay 25-quid for semi-synth bike oil when you can buy suitable fully-synth oil for £11½, then that's up to you!

And there are still people who believe advertising doesn't pay!

I used to get 7 bars when Stuck in traffic in Athens. Then I used Motorkote an additive with many applications.
It can be used in the engine the gearbox and the final drive. Since then the temperature wont go further than 5 bars. The noise has reduced dramatically the bike runs smooth even when on 5 bars and also the fuel consumption has fallen. I will totally recommend it not only for warm climates but for everybody out there who wants to protect their bike. more details on

I had 1 bar space below the red in crawling traffic in Mexico City - is that 7 or 8? Another 1200 GS that was with was two up and hotter. We think his oil got so hot it started to evaporate somehow - next day he had to put a whole load in. Testament to the bikes though - I was about 2 minutes from parking it I was so worried before we made it out of the traffic. They're pretty tough it seems. What you want is an R1100S - they've got no temp guage so you just don't worry:augie I drove it through Vegas, stopped at a shop then when I started it a HUGE cloud of blue smoke coughed it's way out. I guess it was oil past the rings while on the sidestand.

Not really driven in London traffic much but I bet it's just as bad as anywhere in the world nowadays, and gets just as hot

You've resurrected several old threads to plug 'Motorkote' tonight - what's the reason for this?

Actually mentioned 7 times in recent posts :comfort:comfort
I reckon that additive manufacturers are the slippery scam artists in an oily world.:hide

Hi temp

As an old fart who's just crawled out from under his stone for more achohol
just seen this, I've ridden through death vally and also around central greece in the summer and never seen anything as high as this. Have you tried cleaning your oil cooler? even taking it off and flushing it through, and making sure it has a good air flow through it?. Ever thought your temprature sensor might be in need of replacement?, or the rid? if it seems to run ok don't worry about it. I rode home last year from Sweden (85 at the Artic circle!!!) with a good bit of the oil cooler blanked off after a prang and repairs with plastic padding no unusual reading obtained. So if it aint broke don't fix it just thrash it to death over large milages over foreign terrain and keep the flag flying.
dave ( now retuning to a comatose state with a can of carlsburg and brown paper bag of course!) GS

Hi I am cm246
I have been trying to acces my account but is seems that you blocked it! I tried to use the contact us link but the page doesn't work correclty hence the new account.

I do not understand why you acted in such a manner and blocked my account without even informing me.
I know that I have resurected several old threads to ''plug'' motorkote whrere is the wrong with that? I used a product which I found to be really good and I shared it with you. I didn't post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented as a lot of other members do, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

This is a forum for everybody to share their experiences, ask/answer questions and generaly have fun. I cant see what I have done wrong, is it because I dont have a lot of threads posted? I am sure If Steptoe mentioned this product everybody would have gonne creazy and rush to buy it.

Someone else in another thread mentioned Astroturfing! Why ? Do I get commision ? Do I own the company ? Do I care if any of you use it? NO I DONT. As I said I jest thought to share with you my experience and because the amount of threads that comming in in this section thats why I thought to mention it more than once.

I would like to express my apologies if I offended anyone that was not my intention.

Regards
Christos/ cm246

Christos, I blocked your account as you were flagged up as a possible spammer with your constant plugging of the American based motorkote.com. The contact us link does work as I receive many emails a day direct from that link ;)

Okay, we get the mesages that you like the company's products but continual plugging of them makes you look like a small tin of processed meat... hence the reaction :thumb

When I pressed the link to contact you the image with the word came up as a red X. I couldn't add the ''word'' so the message was invalid. I now see that this has been removed!

Hi Christos/ cm246

I wouldn't take offence but I would have a look at what you posted v what folk usually post. Most people post opinion and experience loosely backed up by fact:D You posted a series of posts promoting Motorcote with at least one looking like direct cut n pastes from the product bullshit leaflet.

There had very recently been an extensive thread discussing various additives and you missed it but resurrected ancient threads to add the Motorchoke plug.

Unless you have done 50k miles and have rebuilt your engine after meticulously measuring everything for wear and are an engineer, much of what you said WAS from the product info and not from direct experience. All that molecular stuff is a manufacturer trying to sound important so don't believe everything people tell you however much they smile.

By the way, if Motorcroke offer you a job as a sales rep then take it 'caus you sure are keen:D:thumb

Thanks for the thread resurrection :D

I've only ridden my GS for about 800kms (since yesterday). At times on the motorway the gauge hit six bars, tonight it was on seven while crawling through some really nasty Istanbul traffic with the Mrs on board. Wasn't too hot out either, around 20 celcius. I cant say I noticed any strange noises mind.

Is this a case of paranoia or just usual behaviour?

I've still got the same bike, just about reaching 60,000 miles now, so obviously there was no problem. never seen 7 bars again (at least as far as I remember)
